Engine system fault - no detail
just dawned on me that maybe shouldnt be showing this: When I scroll through my info on the indicator stalk, after all the trip/ consumption info it reads System Faultr - and then nothing. It is as ie it is a heading as once it did read Low Coolant Level untill I changed the water bottle.. If there is a fault will it always advise details?

Mate, had the same problem. No symptoms other than the warning. I had it fixed today. It was a loose pin on the fuel temp sensor. Didn't affect the car in any way other than an annoying warning. Should be a simple fix

Just got my mine a week ago - 2005 SE with 32K miles, have had same message appear and go into limp mode - no warning lights. Stop the car and restart and its gone. Was sitting at 70 with cruise on and when started to climb slight hill the error came up Engine System Fault.
Anybody any ideas?

Can be as simple as a blocked fuel filter, ar as serious as faulty Turbo/HP fuel pump...

What is interesting with mine is the only fault code I get with a Hawkeye is a Turbo Boost fault. Apparantly this is common and two indies have said it doesn't really mean anything..
Another interesting thing is that it doesn't come as a pop-up but only if I scroll through the "i" on the indicator stalk.
I know I have a connection problem with my cooler bottle sensor...
ISM - if you scroll through your 'info' does it constantly show the message, or does it only pop up periodically? Is it only when the vehicle is warm - or only when cold? This is often a clue for bad connections.

What?! And I suppose i have to replace the entire turbo and actuator to correct the problem?

Thanks Mikey, have since read a bit about the actuator issues with turbo, but hasnt come back again in another 400 miles and car is running fine, will have it read if it shows up again. Now gunning it a bit more often, as I have been babying the throttle a bit since I got the car and it is very low miles with a lady owner so it may have been getting that all its life. Hopefully if the actuator was getting sticky that with a little more exercise it may not actually stay stuck! can always hope.

The meassage appeared with beep, and it completely disappeared after the car was re-started.

LR023086 Rod kit
The P132B fault can also come up if you got a sticky VVT mechanism. This will manifest itself with a sluggish start sometimes accompanied by lots of smoke. Where at other times it works fine.
You can try to spray engine de-carboniser spray (Subaru sells these) to get the mechanism working again. If not a new turbo is called for.
I am currently investigating to source the actuators separately.EX AFRICA SEMPER ALIQUID NOVI

yes the actual mechanism inside the turbo (exhaust) housing can become sticky, if there is too much soot.
We do not have the problem with the seized rods here on the Highveld. If then only in the Durban coastal area.
But I do have seen it now on numerous vehicles, where the actuator has stopped working, due to a blocked vane mechanism. We cannot go on the highway here and blast about at 160km/h. That would be way too expensive

hgbosch - that is interesting. What are the symptoms?
Does the actuator stop working altogether or just become sticky at first? I presume if it is sticky you would feel it?

the actuator actually doesn't move to the fully closed position. When starting up the vehicle, it will go into a fully closed fully open sequence, to ascertain that the VVT operates properly. It that is not the case, then it moves to the fully open position and stays there. It then also logs the P132B fault.
When operating vehicle with vanes stuck in fully open positions, the vehicle has NO power and there is a huge amount of black smoke coming out the back, when pressing accelerator beyond ca 30% of travel.
