MY12 Subwoofer - does yours do anything? |
|
On my previous Discos, the subwoofer was very noticeable; on this one, it doesn't seem to make any difference, to the point where if you crank the levels on the sub right up, then hit reset all, you can't hear any change. Took it into dealer this morning who agreed there was no change, tried an MY11 D4 and could hear a difference, and then another MY12 and got the same result as mine...
So all you MY12ers, does yours work?! This is on an XS, so if replies could include indication of what model/upgraded ICE you have...
Thanks
Martin

I have a standard MY12 XS (well that's what it should be according to the dealer) but it seems to have premium nav (TMC and voice control).
On 2 channel sources the sub works fine. Reset from sub at max is very obvious (assuming you are playing something with lots of LF).
If you are playing a DVD, then it only reads the 2 channel audio, so no LFE channel is sent to the sub. Whatever ICE I have, it can't do any Dolby Surround or similar. However it does seem to deal with the 2 channel sound correctly.

I've got TMC and Voice too, so it sounds like the same kit - other than the sub not doing anything! Tried Radio, DAB and USB stick - no difference

To be honest, I had no idea where the sub actually was. So I went looking, and it seems to be inside the lower tailgate.
With the sub at max, volume high and Kylie doing her bit, if you open the lower tailgate you can really feel the whole thing vibrating/subbing hard. Turn the sub to min and it almost completely silences.
Faulty wiring to the tailgate maybe?

I believe I read somewhere that bit rate (if you're listening to mp3's) makes a difference in the reproduction of the music through the D3 and presumably D4 stereo. Low bit rate - 128 might not have enough data to properly reproduce the bass notes through the subwoofer. I know there's a difference between listening to cd audio quality and low quality mp3's. Try playing a higher bit rate song and see if that improves the sub performance. 16 D4 Landmark

Not convinced the thunder is there for full effect. Now back when I was a lad we used to put coins on the boot spoiler on the merc cosworth and watch em bounce.
I think the sound is good but something feels clearly missing. Discovery 4 HSE Lux - Second time around

Martin, you're not alone. Same thing here, MY12 and nothing does change when I turn down/crank up the sub via the settings menue. I cant say if it just does not work or if its just not changing level.
What did your dealer say?

I have to correct my previous post.
After been advised that the Subwoofer is in the lower tailgate, I tried with a CD both in the highest and then the lowest setting. You can feel a difference when you put your hand at the carpet.

So you can feel a difference with your hand on the tailgate? On my previous discos, you could pretty much watch the windows bulge in time with the music if you cranked it up fully
Dealer agreed it was a bit rubbish, but since the one in the showroom had the same "feature", they didn't think anything wrong - hence my post to here. I'll take it up with them again at some point

The sub in the D#/4 is a real 'sub' in that it produces the really low rumble (sub bass) rather than the thumping bass which is produced by the woofers in the doors. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€
