New Bling accessory from LR

Land Rover have just added to the accessory list for the FFRR POWERED side steps, which the local dealer took great pride in showing me when I collected my car from them this afternoon. Press the key fob to unlock the car and the sidesteps glide out from underneath, get in and close the door and they disappear back under the car............................. but as with all these things there is a drawback - if you get a puncture and need to jack your FFRR up you first of all have to get underneath it and unscrew a 2m long and exceptionally heavy side step before you can put the jack into place! Laughing
Apparrently the steps will also fit a D3
They cost in the region of £300 and require 3 hours fitting time/labour charge.
Now a disillusioned new Land Rover buyer and have jumped ship to something less expensive and more reliable that hugs trees.... now driving a Mini Countryman PHEV as well as my trusty and brilliant 1996 Epsom Green Defender90 Tdi300

What about with an air jack?

They don't come as standard, even on a FFRR!

I find the side steps on the D3 very handy and I wouldn't be without them. They're excellent when parking in tight spaces when it is difficult to get out of a partly opened door. The also protect the car from other neighbouring car doors.
However, they really get in the way when off-roading and stop you going in the shallowest of ruts. Maybe these retractable steps are the solution. I'd be very interested in them.

Me too. It would save me from following Matt around, checking whether or not his steps had cleared the obstacles! Wink

I reckon an airjack would work, if placed correctly. Can't believe the £300 price tag, though. Normal steps cost that.

I've found the fitting instructions on the GTR site.
They are called "Deployable Side Steps" and are part no. VUB 504240.
They look complex things to fit. The have switches in the head lining!
Doesn't look like they would fit a D3 though.

Interesting !

And quite funny !

I can already imagine the reaction of some of those who think that there is already way too much electronics on a D3 ! Very Happy
