According to a main dealer mechanic whos been on recent Landrover D3 update course its not only the D3 Turbo that is causing problems.
The recent twin turbo diesel Jaguar is giving problems as well

The turbochargers are the same - we just get one, though.

I doubt that. The unit on the D3 is a single BV50 (borg Warner VGT unit). A single bank of the D3 would not be able to drive the turbine side properly (well at least not until about 2600~3200 RPM anyway, which would defeat the object on a diesel). The TDV8 ( 3.6L V8 ) uses 2 x BV39 units which are quite a bit smaller than the BV50 unit.
