New D4 - Best OE tyres?
Ordered my new D4 last week.
What are the best OE fitment tyres guys? I had Pirellis on the first one but run Wintrac extremes at the minute. I've heard that they come with either Pirellis or another make as standard.
Thanks in advance, it'll be interesting to hear your thoughts My17 Volvo XC90 Inscription

New orders come with Good Year Wrangler HP AW and are the only option for standard spec cars.
Pirelli Scorpion Zero are available as a no cost option on 20" wheels only.
I will probably run the Wranglers until they turn into slicks , then swap back to Grabber ATs (have them on the D3 and make it a different beast... very impressed)
Had Wranglers on the D2 - ran for 60000 mls and were very good, but have my doubts they will cope the the exrta power and weight of the D4.
I've had both the Pirelli Scorpion Zeros and the Good Year Wrangler OEM tyres on the D3 with 18" wheels and have to say that I thought the car was more 'sure footed' with the Pirellis on.
I also had the Pirellis on the D4 with 20" wheels and it too felt very 'planted'.

Interesting
I couldn't wait to get rid of the Scorpions - they tramlined like mad and grip in heavy wet / mud / snow was awful.
They did give 4-5mpg better than the Grabber AT though.
I had them on a *cough* 3.7 Cherokee and they felt like they were made of plastic.. limited grip.
Thought the car had major handling issues until I fitted BFG A/T.. and it turned into one of the best handling 4x4's I have owned.LR4 HSE 5.0 V8 Alaska White

I had Wranglers as OE on my series 2 FFRR and thought they were excellent for waht they were , reasonable in mud and good in snow and lasted for ever.

I've used Pirelli Scorpion Zero's and Goodyear Wrangler HP's on my own D3, but both were 19".
I preffered the Pirelli as (IMO) they gave better steering feel and grip/traction. Also the Goodyear's got noisier as they wore. I'd say wear rates were broadly similar, the Goodyears might just have the edge.
Off-road, I really couldn't tell any noticeable difference between the two.
As an aside, I wouldn't choose to have 20" rims on any 4X4, but that's a personal preference.

Did the D4 owners who hated the Scorpion Zero's have them in 19" or 20"?
The three D4's that I've driven all had 19" wheels, even though they were all HSE spec. I'm sure that they all had Zero's fitted as well. But LR always flitted between Pirelli & Goodyear with the D3, I'm guessing it's down to availability and cost.
