Retro-fit Adaptive Headlights |
|
Does anyone know if it's possible to retro fit the adaptive headlights?
My old car had them, but the replacement doesn't.

Did you accept knowing the adaptives weren't there? The replacement should have been the same! They have not replaced the vehicle they have given you a different one. AFAIK the adaptives cannot be retro fitted as they do not have the wiring for them. Unless you ask them to get you the right vehicle and suddenly come up with a solution. It would one of the main aspects of my car I would insist was there. I accepted there were differences between the two cars.
As far as I know, the HIDs are a plug and play, I wondered if the Adaptive Headlamps were the same?
I mean, surely it sources the 'adaptive' part from a similar module to the steering input on the Nav/Information screen?

The general thought is that adaptives have a seperate ecu. The lights themselves will work but not move and will not be in the correct positions. Zermatt silver 06 reg.

I think there will be an additional ecu involved, and of course the necessary "switch on" in the cars brain. I would think the wires are there though.

I also believe that the motors are not there and would also need to be sourced (new headlamps with motors) and am not sure if additional steering input sensors would also be required.

The steering input sensors are already there for the DSC but it wouldn't be a DIY job.

The motors would be integrated with the headlight unit, same as the HID Ballasts are? Wouldn't they?

GM,
IMHO the adaptive lights don't provide much more lighting when cornering than fixed lights. For the cost of the option you could have spent the $ on a pair of HID driving lights.
The cornering lamps are useful though for tight slow speed turns which I think are part of the adaptive light package.
My 2 cents worth.

When you get away from the City lights, on a mountain road (particularly the one to the family farm), they're incredible.

I raised this issue previously but can't find the thread. I believe that it can be done if you have the cash to burn, but don't let me stop you as I'd be interested to know. seeing the dealer next week and will try to find out what is involved.
