Odd variance in engine rpm

My new-to-me 54 plate D3 tdv6 auto has a stange problem. When holding a steady speed going uphill so the engine is working a bit the revs rise and fall by about 100-200 rpm every couple of seconds. Just before the revs fall there is also a fairly quiet noise that is hard to describe, a sort of light whooshy rattle just for a second.

The sensation is like a slipping clutch.

Any ideas? Does it sound serious (fingers crossed its not).

Cheers.

125k miles although I've only had it a couple of weeks. Got a full service history so shouldn't that have been done?

Double flush presumably cause you can't get it all out in one go?

Have just had a megaflush done on mine at 82k (05 plate) as it had the same symptoms. Drives like brand new now. Razz

It's one of those jobs that is borderline for me to attempt. I tend to steer clear of anything which means I can't move the beast if/when I bodge it up unless I am very confident in what I am doing.

Doesn't a Megaflush imply the use of a dedicated Megaflush machine to change 99% of the oil?

I thought the only DIY option was a double flush, or variation on this theme.

Robbie

You can call it what you want but as long as you replace more than 9.5 ltrs of oil and you change the filter you end up with the same result as if you have the so called proper machine .

I used to do it the oil cooler way and two drums when I did auto gearboxes years ago, its just the price of the Oil has increased 10 fold since then...

Had the megaflush done on Saturday at Gloucester Road Gearboxes in Bristol. Has cured the 'slipping' sensation and no sign of the slight judder that I was occasionally getting either so I'm happy. £216 all in and done in 2 hours.

Just hope it lasts!
