Guys
First issue with Disco 4, 2 weeks of ownership, completely loving it but came back to earth with a bump this morning.
Started the car first thing and orange triangle with Gearbox Fault - OK to Clear.
Went to call LR, had left phone in house, turned off car, retrieved phone and restarted it. Error gone. Called LR anyway. They told me to ignore it unless you get a red triangle or it keeps coming back.
Have seen an old thread relating to this, with a known fault. I was wondering if there was any more information in the couple of years since it was posted.
Typically we're off on a bit of a tour tomorrow evening! So a bit concerned.
Thanks
TJ

This is likely to be caused by a weak battery, and/or a failing alternator. When you first turn the key, a sensor in the gearbox goes through a range check, if it does not complete it before the engine starts, it flags up the error.

check for soft update, mine do the same many times, much more often when i didnt respect the "cllink clank clonk" noises at the botton of the car (as Garreth says, sensors and valves auto tests) and after get soft update done, it is now perfect. no red triangle, no messages, nothing. perfect.

Thanks guys, I am going to get some warranty work done on the car (really anoying sqweak from the driver's seat). I will mention it when that is done.
Supprised that it needs a software update though, I thought that was something that LR do as a metter of course before they sell as a used approved car.
Cheers

I just noticed. Your profile says its a D4 That should be happening with a D4. If it was an earlier D3 then yes its worth checking, but a D4 is still under warranty.

Posted in the D4 Technical forum, opening sentence "First issue with Disco 4"...
Thanks though, I'll get it checked out!

Yes sorry, must be more observant in the future Hope you get it sorted. I suppose if its an early D4, the battery might still be an issue, especially if it does a lot of short journeys.

Personally I wouldn't be fobbed off by the dealer. Book it in and get them to check it over.....

Get the fault codes checked.
There were two bulletins released. One for a new gear lever and one for a software update. These did come out a while ago though.

Not saying that it is this but you can get this (and others) faults if you take your foot off the brake pedal before the engine has fully fired.

Has happended to me a couple of times in last two years on my D4. If you switch off engine and re-start it should clear. if it doesn't clear get it checked out.
