It's the same for any car with an alternator (won't apply to electric cars....)

http://www.carbasics.co.uk/How_to_test_your_alternator.htm

Actually you should take a battery reading first without the engine running. Then with the engine running you can check to see you have more volts than what you read first. You are aiming for 14v and actually on idle there should be plenty of current coming from a working alternator.

Any garage can check your alternator. You can check the voltages, but the best check is with load. Any garage will have a meter to check it...

Yeh you can jumpstart, did it on mine loads of times when my battery was on the way out. But to be honest, if the alternator is goosed and the battery is at 11v, you are not going to get very far at all before the battery dies completely.

If you have any homestart recovery or anything like that, I'd consider ringing them to be honest. They may be able to fit an alternator for the cost of parts if they can get hold of one! (the RAC did this for me on a different car a few years back!)

Thumbs Up
