Battery light staying on when the engine is running what could it be.

It's the same for any car with an alternator (won't apply to electric cars....)

Actually you should take a battery reading first without the engine running. Then with the engine running you can check to see you have more volts than what you read first. You are aiming for 14v and actually on idle there should be plenty of current coming from a working alternator.

Checked the battery whilst running 11 volts so the alternator goosed, now the battey is flat can i just jump start from an other car or will iT DAMAGE any of the D3 electronics,

Yeh you can jumpstart, did it on mine loads of times when my battery was on the way out. But to be honest, if the alternator is goosed and the battery is at 11v, you are not going to get very far at all before the battery dies completely.
If you have any homestart recovery or anything like that, I'd consider ringing them to be honest. They may be able to fit an alternator for the cost of parts if they can get hold of one! (the RAC did this for me on a different car a few years back!)
