| Which profile wheels for winter and off road? |

I currently have 19" wheels, with road tyres. The D£ did superbly with those tyres, but for next year and winter, I am looknig for a spare set of wheels and types for the beach and snow. I am thinking of Grabber tyres, but what wheels?
Should I get 19" as fitted, or am I better going for 17" for off road? As an ex Michelin rep, I seem to remember a higher profile is good in sand, (also allowing a slightly lower pressure) but it was a long time ago, and tyres and vehicles have moved on.
Any current advice?

19's should as good as other sizes for any surface although you right saying that for more demanding off-roading 17's/18's with beefy boots would offer better protection to rims
I have never used 17's off road and very happy with 19's on MT/Rs which proven to be unstoppable in any condition

grzesiul, thanks for your fast reply.
Interesting, seems the tech is different now. The D3 is an amazing vehicle. Over the summer I was trying to pull a boat out of the sea on soft sand, and was amazed at what the D3 did.
That said my old mitsubishi with grabbers on used to do better in some situations.
As I had 19" whells, I could not really let much pressure out of the tyres, which is what the boys in the desert do I am lead to believe.
I was thinking that a higher profile would give that edge... as well as the rims and tyres being a bit cheaper. Am I right, or barking up the wrong tree?

Personally I went for a spare set of 17's for off road, cheaper to buy and more choice in tyres Joined the BMWX5 45e group
