Have I been Robbed?

Hi.

I bought my 2006 D3 HSE a few months ago. It's my first LR and I love it, despite being a bit thirsty...
My question is; When I bought the car (private purchase), the previous owner explained that the car had a 'Tunit box' fitted, and under the bonnet he lifted the edge up of the large square plastic cover on the Left Hand side (opposite side to the battery compartment) to reveal some stuff underneath in this corner 'compartment' which had the tunit box resting on top. It was a bit dark so I couldn't see much anyway.

I haven't looked under the engine compartment panels since then until today, and I was quite surprised to find the LH compartment is empty, apart from the tune-in box.

I feel sure that when I last looked it had something in there with the tune-it box resting on top. Now the compartment is empty, with brass screw points set into the floor of the compartment. My tunit box is now attached to the side with a cable tie.

This makes me suspect that the Independent garage who recently serviced my car might have removed something from this compartment without my knowledge? Can anyone advise me what piece of kit usually lives in that compartment, or am I going mad?

Many thanks!

The housing is designed for a second battery ...the brass screw points are for the battery holding down bracket

Craigside - just to be clear, the installation of a second battery is an aftermarket modification that some people do.

It is not, and has never been, fitted to any D3s or D4s from the factory - not even as an optional accessory.

There is probably only < 0.5% of D3s fitted with a second/leisure/auxilliary battery so the chances of you having had one fitted and then having had it sneakily removed/stolen are very slim.

In LHD cars, the main factory-fit battery is fitted in this space (i.e. the "empty" side in your RHD car) and we fit our second batteries in the space where your main (starter) battery is fitted - in other words it's the opposite way around. That is why there are thread posts moulded into the bottom of the battery tray.

To put it another way, the compartment on the passenger side (true for both RHD and LHD D3s) always contains the main battery and BJB (fusebox), whilst the driver side compartment is left empty except for the ABS valve unit and other stuff. It is the driver side compartment where some owners fit a secondary battery.

Hope this helps Thumbs Up
