New tyres??????????

Just taken receipt of my first Discovery 3 (56 plate 2.7 TDV6) and got a little knocked off the price due to front tyres not having much life left. Currently running Pirelli Scorpions 255/60R 18. Living in the north of Scotland and judging by the last couple of winters I need to think about all terrain tyres? The questions I have are:
(1) Do i get all terrain tyres, if so which ones?
(2) If i do go for all terrain do i get just the two or go for all four, if only go for two do i put them on the front or back?
(3) is there any sort of "halfway" tyre between road and all terrain?

Appreciate any advice.

Can't go far wrong with Vredestein Wintrac for the winter & summer. Not an off road tyre so you will need something more aggressive if you plan that, but for performance in the snow and the cold scottish summers they are hard to beat.

£155 each at click on tyres just now

edit - probably worth taking the hit and getting all 4 new at once if finance permits. Prevents strange grip related issues in poor conditions from different tyres.

Thanks Alex, I will give Sillets a call tomorrow and get a price. Sillets in Aberdeen have supplied all the tyres for all my normal cars and bikes, this is my first 4x4 so we'll see if they are as good on these tyres as they have been for all my other tyres, so far they have been unbeatable.

Anyone got any other recommendations for suppliers of tyres in Aberdeen?

let me know if they are close on price as I need another 2 and will be in Aberdeen on Thursday!

Don't know anyone up your way, but you could get them mailed and fitted locally.

Best price i can get for tyres fitted is £198 each! The next best was £200, but for that he would also store my current tyres over the winter and refit for the summer, and for an extra £15 do the same for my winter tyres over the summer!! Been looking at ATR's but i may have to change the rims to 17in for these??? Tyres unfortunately are not stock and would take a day for delivery!

Not sure why, I have Pirelli ATR's in 255/55/19 & 255/60/18 sizes.

General Grabber ATs are pretty reasonable and good in the snow (without being an actual winter tyre)

Using Goodyear Wrangler's, had no problems with them last year on the D3 in the snow and don't expect problems this year in the D4

So do you run the ATR's all the year round or swap them over for the summer? The guys at my work just run them all the year round! What's the down side of the ATR's??

Appreciating the help i'm getting on here Smile
