For December:-

we do the trip 2 or 3 times every year, for you being in Sussex (like us in SE London) then either a fast ferry to Calais or Le Shuttle (our preference) then Autoroute A26 to Reims, A4 to Metz, Direction Strasbourg then just before take A35 direction Karlsruhe then A8 all the way to Munich.

Miles from London to Munich just under 700 and about 11 hours driving time - we make a break around Metz for the night but it is doable in one go.

Summer drives we do completely different Thumbs Up

I'm also in the south, so my preference to Munich is EuroTunnel to Calais, then like Higgers above, get out of France as quickly as possible... which means: E40 - A61 - A8

You start heading towards Bruges, Brussels and Bonn before heading south to Munich but it's a fast and easy route that I've done many times a year, easily drivable in a long day - 600 miles from Calais. Plus you're only in France for about 15 minutes... which is still 10 minutes too long for me!

At the end of this month I've got Berlin and then in September I'm back again for the Frankfurt Motorshow... Disco + Autobahn is a great combination, and usually easier than flying if you're carrying much kit. Just watch the December fogs through Belgium - sometimes mad, so best to take it steady Thumbs Up

Just done this - We went Dover/Dunkirk - Purely because we had a free ticket - normally I'd go Tunnel.

We then followed the sat nav - via Luxemburg to get cheap (Sic) fuel, then Down teh A1 towards Kaiserslautern/Saarbrücken/Mainz.

The road is being repaired in a few places - but didn't hold us up too much

so how long did you have to wait for? I was there last Sunday... I couldn't believe my eyes seeing how many cars were in line at the Shell station on the A something... Trouble was I was running on fumes already so had to fuel up. The difference is about 30 cents a litre though, quite worth it when you take in 75+ litres.

I've no idea exactly where I fueled up - was on the motorway though - But there were about 20 pumps feeding into about 6 pay booths - there were 2 or 3 cars in front so didn't take that long. Oh. and that didn't include the truck ones Shocked
