It seems one of our UK distributors is moving a small number of slow / dead stock FCR's at only 125 GBP on Ebay
These can be re licensed to different vehicle models like the D3 / D4 for only about 21 GBP
making them something of a bargain, given that delivered costs from us would be 225 to 250 GBP.
>> Item number on eBay: eBay Item No. 150601725342
>> Item number on eBay: eBay Item No. 150601726949
>> Item number on eBay: eBay Item No. 190536826838
Although these are old stock, we are of course doing the right thing and covering them fully as new with our own BBS 12 months warranty.

Hiya brummiedeano
It seems that there is a bit of an issue brewing about our FCR updater software's compatibility that is proving to be a bit of a swine to nail down, identify and correct. I only wish it were more black and white.
We once thought this an OS version problem. hence our cautionary posts to this effect, but now it seems to be otherwise. We have it working very successfully on all OS's but then have PC's it seems to work fine on one minute but not the next.
To date, no one who has need of it has failed to get it going with a bit of pigging about or trying alternates.
I wish i could offer more help in this, but i can only be honest about it.
The very worst case scenario is to send it to Pete Bell in the UK who does this a lot

Hi sent a pm as well, could you please elaborate more on what's involved in reprogramming the unit to work on different LR chassis degins? Or is this explained in BBS website?
A few mods... and keeping it all running...Faultmate MSV2

You simply need to email Admin@blackbox-solutions.com explaining you want to re license an FCR to a different vehicle, giving the following info
Where / who you got the FCR from
Vehicle model and year you want to re license it to
FCR Serial number (printed on it and visible on booting flash screen)
Preferred currency of payment
How you wish to pay.
They will then send you by return, an invoice that you need to pay.
After that you will have a small FCR License file sent to you.
From then on the instructions as to what to do with this are found on the downloads page of the FCR web site
http://www.blackbox-solutions.com/FCR/downloads.htm
There is a step by step document
http://www.blackbox-solutions.com/FCR/FCR_Updater_licensing.pdf
and even a demo video
http://www.blackbox-solutions.com/downloads/videos/FCR_UD.html
It's really easy to do, but as you have just read on this thread, there does seem to be an issue with the updater software not running on some PC's all the time.

Hi!
I've bought one of these items, the Defender licensed one.
But I have a Freelander 2 and I am a member of Freel2.com since 2009. An active one, I could say...
Although you give as example the D3/D4, I suppose that, after its arrival, it wont be a problem to re-licence it for Freelander 2, isn't it?
Thank you!

FCR updated to version 1.7 and then re-licensed OK.
All works well!
Many thanks for your support!

So now even the doubtiest of doubters is now a very happy bunny it seems and following my advice has saved himself a shed load on getting a very cheap FCR.
Best of luck Alex and thanks for writing in with your eventual result

I have another question...
Is is possible to purchase a FCR license that will not lock on a single VIN, and will diagnose any FL2?
If yes, which is its price?
But a FCR license for any/all LR car/model? Again, which price?
In other words, a plain an simple workshop tool for diagnose any LR, without the complicated (an sometime unnecessary in a workshop) stuff of a MSV2.
Thank you!

No, the FCR is not available as a multi car license tool.
The only multi car license capable tools are the MSV & MSV2 range tools.
The MSV2 extreme can be used in standalone mode without the need for a pc connection with it's built in LCD screen for fault code reading and clearing much like the FCR but in a more powerfull and more workshop friendly tool.

Lets think a little...
When the FCR updates its firmware, it doesn't know on what car it will be inserted, or better said, you don't have an option to select which car, just version and language, right?
So, it will have to contain all the error codes, for all possible combination of modules/ECUs.
Just look inside the firmware files and you'll see/know what I mean...
Probably, when it is inserted, it knows which modules/ECUs to show, in other words knows which type of car is, based probably on the first letters of VIN.
Now, if the lock on VIN is removed, I can bet that, if is wanted, you'll have a multi car tool...
So the question stands: how much?
Thank you!

how about 15k stirling and it wont cover non CAN cars as the tool does not support the non can hardware, which is a little expencive so it may be best to buy the MSV2 extreme with its LCD for multi car use as it would be cheaper
