Advice pse: need to drive w/ rear door open to move sofa

This may sound stupid - but I could use some advice.

I need to move a sofa that's too big for the car but about 30cm, so I can't close the rear door. I intend to drive with the rear door tied to the hitch (or something). It's about 30 miles. Any major dramas (other than fumes!).

Too cheap to pay for a man and van.

I've also done similar, & also with doors fully open to move a chicken ark. On this occasion it was raining - resulting in lots of spray being drawn back into the car ... so not recommended in the wet.

Ventilation on full counters the fumes...

Hi I have just doen exactly the same thing but fumes can be a problem due to vacuum effect into rear door however this can be overcome if you open thef ront windows to allow a through draft and negate the low pressure inside the car causing fumes to enter back in. Mike. Razz

Do not forget to display a number plate........
Otherwise you might spend sometime having a chat on the side of the road with the boys in blue.

As the number plate is on the lower tailgate, if this is folded down, you will need to display a temporary number plate.

Thanks, guys.

Judging by the utterly tragic disaster that's unfolding in London Town I imagine (hope) the cops will be too busy to stop me and the sofa. Evil or Very Mad

(But will probably make a plate up anyway - hadn't thought of that).

Cheers.

Carry a screw driver and unscrew your plate, use the holes in the plate to tie to the sofa, saves buying another plate Exclamation Smile

Just drag it to your nearest street corner, it will be burnt within 5 mins the way its going.

Before you do it (assuming you are not going to bungee them closed as described) switch off your autolocking via the info setting on the control stalk.

If you have it activated and you drive off it locks when in the open position, then gets itself confused and won't unlock again. Clears after a while but it's a PITA.
