Squeak a mouse

trapped mouse ?

But seriuously when cruising at about 50-60 steadily there is an annoying squeak from around the steering column area anyone got any good pointers as it drives me mad. it is a high pitch intermittent squeeking like a mouse Shocked . ive tried pushing all the trim and vent panels and dash but cant seem to track it down.Seems to be from around steering column but not easy to isolate as you need to be cruising along for it to happen !

any clues or ideas would be appreciated ( mouse traps cat or bait ideas not required Very Happy )

Is it just one squeak that can be heard and then it goes quiet for a while & then you hear the squeak a few minutes later? If so, it may be the air con flaps re-positioning themselves.
A quick squirt of silicon should fix it. Wiggs did some instructions a fair while ago if you have a search. Thumbs Up

I had this a couple of years ago. I asked the dealer to see if they could find the cause during a service. They couldn't find anything but said they had noticed the windscreen had been replaced. They then proceeded to point out that the new windscreen had not been installed properly saying it was too high at the top of the screen! I then went back to the national window installer and told the manager what the LR dealer had told me. When he stopped laughing he told me not to worry as he knew what was causing the squeak. Either side of the windscreen on the outside are plastic trims which are held on by plastic clips. If these are not holding the trim firmly, windspeed at cruise will result in the trim moving against the screen causing the squeak. The manager replaced all the trim clips and then insisted that he accompany me up the dual carriageway to ensure that the squeak had been cured, which it had. Hope this is useful.

and the clips from the A pillar trims missing/broken sound like the sqeaking's coming from the steering column? I only ask as I have much the same squeak occasionally and the trim is loose at the bottom, as if the windscreen's been changed before and new clips weren't fitted.

As the squeak only occurs at speed, I found it difficult to trace where it was coming from. I actually thought my squeak was coming from the driver's footwell, my wife from the passenger seat, thought it was coming from low down by the driver's door! We were both wrong.

quick relief

Mine squeaks from the passenger seatbelt, where it rubs on the seat (drivers doesn't tho') "I get my wife to give it a quick tug that usually does the job."( Thumbs Up )
It is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.

I also have the squeak that sounds like it is comming from the steering column, noticed it for the first time last week when cruising on the motorway at about 60mph. I will have to check the clips although as far as I know my windscreen has never been touched.

Had this recently. I moved the steering wheel in and out and up and down and it disappeared.

Don't know if something had moved or what but it worked (and it cost nothing!)
