breakdown insurance

Hi all
Just had an email from warrantydirect regarding breakdown insurance for £87.50 yr.
any claim is subject to £50 excess and if vehicle has over 60,000 miles (mine has) a "contribution" to parts is payable. I,m about to traul through the small print Rolling Eyes but wondered if anyone had any experience of these sort of schemes.
cheers Andi

For that price it must be very basic cover. There will be LOTS of exclusions. I was paying nearly £70 per month with Warrant Direct for their Extra Care policy which covered almost everything, including things like MOT fails for worn bushes etc. The £70 per month also included franchise dealer labour rates. If you don't have that extra, you have to take the vehicle to one of their "network" garages and some of them I wouln't trust to fix a wheelbarrow let alone a complex machine like a disco.

In my case, the cover was worth while as they paid out on one particularly expensive repair (but it was off the road for an excessive length of time as WD wanted to inspect the car about 3 times during the work and this created long delays). I stopped the policy at 100,000miles as the "contribution" to parts got too high.

Like many insurance companies, they will do everything they can to get out of paying out on a claim so make sure you FULLY understand the small print.

I am in dispute with them over my last claim but that is another story.
