timing belt replacement
Hello ,still battling on with replacing cam belt on 05 discovery.Have removed starter to lock flywheel in position and with the cams locked the hole above the starter motor aperture lines up not with a hole in the flywheel that from research should be 9.9mm but what looks like a plate with a slot that is about 8mm!!!!
I machined up a locking pin that I thought would be a slide fit into the hole in the block and then a pin length of about 20mm but looking at pictures of pin kits the length of pin looks a lot longer but this wouldnt go through the hole I have.I marked up all the crank and cam positions so I have a reference and this slot is in the correct place. Are the pics of the locking pins Im looking at wrong?

Double check you are using the right pin. In the kit I have, the manual + auto tensioners are labeled wrongly. I.E Auto locking pin is used on a manual carMy D3 Build Thread

Thanks for that advice you hit the nail right on the head.I didnt realise there were 2 different crank locking pins and the size and shape of the one I made was replicating an auto and not a manual that uses an eccentric pin.
when I got hold of a pin kit it was the same as yours labelling the one I needed as an auto which until I read your post really confused me.Thanks for the reply. On the belt tensioner did you rotate the inner until the cut out on the front face matched the little raised boss on the back face?
