19" MTR's - How are they for on road use? |
|
I am in the process of getting a set of Goodyear MTR's for my 19" rims and I wondered (from those that have then fitted) how good they are for general road use? I have a set of 18's with road tyres but don't fancy swapping wheels whenever I am off-roading.
Any advice? 2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

handling wise, they're fine - even when engaged in 'spirited' driving
Some steering vibration under hard acceleration together with the expected increase in road noise, they appear to be harder wearing than the standard tyres too

Normally, like AndrewS, I leave the MTRs on all the time. You soon get used to the noise (just turn the Abba CD up a bit!!) & I agree with TFC that they do handle very well. Mind U, never had it nearly the car on its side to avoid a Volvo!
The MTRs are in the shed at the moment as had to take them off after Abingdon to get the mud off & hose mud out of the brakes etc. Then Mrs L wanted her "nice and quiet" alloys back on for a bit, I was planning to leave them on full time. Found mpg went down a little but that may not have been the tyres.

Are they really noisey compared to the standard tyres? When my new car comes I was thinking of fitting them for the winter but the new car has TPMS so I will have to change the off the rims rather than changing the wheels.
