My car is groaning!?
I wonder if anyone can help or pinpoint where the problem I'm having on my 2005 2.7 tdv6 se is coming from?
On start up the car makes a groaning droning noise, I think it may be the air suspension but not sure.
I reported it along with a list of problems to the garage I bought it from in Edinburgh and they took it to Whites on Dalry road who said the car was fine and the noise was just the compressor. They updated the air compressor software and that was it.
It just doesn't sound right to me and I wonder if anyone else has had this problem?

After starting the car up the suspension compressor always comes on for a few seconds (feels like 30 seconds to me).
It sounds very similar to the portable cigarette lighter plug type tyre compressors. The sound will be from just in front of the near side rear wheel. There is a fair bit of soundproofing so it should sound pretty muffled. If the soundproofing is gone or the compressor cover is full of mud or cracked then it can make a hell of a racket when the compressor is running. That will be the first thing to check in my opinion.Dennis

Thanks Dennis, I will check the soundproofing, when it was in at Whites Autocentre the guy said the compressor was only about 6 months old so thought he would have checked everything but you can never be sure.
I would probably say it is a muffled groaning and if you say I should here something like this then I'm happy. I've never had air suspension before so hearing this noise just worried me and got me thinking something more was wrong!
I get a groan from the aircon from time to time. Sounds like it's coming from the near side front. Could it be that?As you slide down the banister of life

Yes the compressor is definitely audible. It just should not be making any rattles, squeaks, etc. Just a muffled purring sound if you have the windows open. With the windows closed it is only just faintly audible. So if you're just hearing it as described you have nothing to worry about
The compressor should turn off after 30-60 seconds.Dennis

It definitely turns off after 30-60 seconds and it doesn't seem to squeak or rattle but it is a droning noise rather than a purr?
