Dual Fuel Tank and rear wheel carrier
Have any of the members installed the front runner dual fuel tank and moved the spare wheel on their D4 to the rear carrier that front runner offer. If so please can you comment as to how well these mods worked out and how robust they are. Does the dual tank hang any lower than the original spare wheel? Many thanks for any feedback.

Dual tank
See Baden's galary for photos of dual tank, apperently condensation could be a problem, if tank is not kept full? Sure he would have plenty to add. What's the verdict on the D4 ?
To minimise any moisture condensation problem in the aux tank, just fill the aux tank only when driving locally. Transfer the fuel from the aux tank to the main tank via the pump and this prevents a moisture build-up. My old D3 (RIP) had one brand of rear-wheel carrier and I have a mate who had another brand. Both work just fine and were reliable (until SWMBO drove around a left corner after forgetting the latch the rear tyre, which bent a few things - this result can be avoided by a short black rope preventing over-opening). Like any rear wheel carrier, it means that the back pokes out further when parallel parking. Also most rear wheel carriers cause spasms for one of the rear bumper distance sensors, since it hangs over the sensor. The only solution is to disconnect the sensor (takes 2 wire cuts and one wire joint by memory).
The aux fuel tanks we get here don't cause the rear approach angle any worse and since they're smooth, things slide off easier. Of course a few big rocks and the tank is 5 litres smaller.Jim Dowell - D4 HSE TDi, 12,000 hydraulic winch & hidden winch mount, MTRs, TyreDog, Traxide 2 x aux battery system, fixed air compressor, Dolium roof rack, MitchHitch.

no problems with the fuel tank except for the crappy pumps that Front Runner fit. Tell them to make sure they have cleaned the tank out properly - my pump got clogged with some plastic shavings somehow - must have been residue in the tank from fitting pipes etc.
c learance no problem at all. FR fit a protector as well
rear wheel carrier is a royal pain in the a$$ - you now have 3 "doors" to open before you can use the boot. Watch this space - a friend is designing a rear wheel carrier that integrates with the top door

Spare wheel
Won't that put huge weight on the top door? cause problems with gas struts etc.?

Where gas struts mount on the body work is very flimsy, you'll
still have to upgrade the gas struts D3 bullbar-spots-roof rack with spots-ladder-long range tank-swing out spare wheel carrier- upgraded tow bar-dash console-internal water tank-duel awnings-drawer system & T T.

I agree with Baben, the fuel pump is really crap. I have had the same probs, and the second one is on its way out as well. The spare wheel carrier is a pain in the royal but worthwhile. One tyre change will make you love it for life though, vs crawling underneath the car in the mud The spare protrudes to far out and becomes an irritation at times.
Still worthwhile, allowing me well over 1000 km on the open road between fill-up's Live Life, do Africa!
