Diesel Fuel Pump Failure
I am more confused than ever, but maybe you lot can help.
First Fault Indication - Car loses power and indicates Engine fault on the display.
Switch off and restart AIO drive on for another week no issues.
Go for nice long drive in the country for work and 2km from home the same fault occurs.
Limp home at 20km / hour cant get past 2nd in manual. (Tiptronic or whatever its called.)
Send it of to the mechanic. "Its the fuel pump", source 2nd hand tank and pump and install, "oops wrong guess its the other pump in the engine"
Since I won't (Can't afford to send my vehicle to the stealers) I am trying to source a pump. This is where it gets complicated. my online searching can't find such a pump. The local agents give me different part numbers.
Trying to get my brother in Germany to source one, put they only offer me the pump in tank?
Any ideas? Is this the real fault, how many pumps do these things have and why?
Is there an alternative fix?
Then best of all when this is fixed I need to drive it across town to another mechanic to fix my clutch.

It sounds like the High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) at the back of the engine.Bodsys Brake Bible
There was a recall on early cars for the hpfp. Yours may have been missed.
The impeller starts to breakup and reduces pressure.
Are there any particular circumstances that occur when you the the ESF?Mark.

Not sure what you meant by the question?

He means what circumstances is the vehicle in when you get the ESF (Engine Systems Fault) message. Are you accelerating, cruising, idling, decelerating or what. Does it occur immediately, or after a while. Just trying to get a better picture of what is actually happening.
I would have expected a HP fuel pump failure to be sudden, and terminal, ie restart would not be possible, and running even at low power would not be possible either.
Have you checked/blanked egr's, and have you had the faults read?

Hey Gareth
Thanks for clarifying that. The 3rd time it occurred it was terminal (although still managed to drive 1km before stopping) not even a fault mate could reset it.
The first two occasions happened on deceleration.I will go anywhere, as long as it be forward. David Livingstone
HP pump failure is not always terminal - ie it will reset and carry on to the next time - usually due to increased demand - like you are overtaking or going up a hill - the pump is just down on duty, not totally
If its faulting on deceleration, it is unlikely to be fuel related - but you need to get the codes read to have any hope of getting a clue as to where to start. Mark.

I must admit I would have thought this to be most likely as well, although not always. How many miles have you done and have you had the belt changed?
I just wonder if the belt could be worn and slipping? Although that is unlikely as it's got teeth.D3 HSE MY05 Auto

I assume you have checked / changed the fuel filter? In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Down and out's Velar

The recall, which I think was for early D3's was for the HP pump, in which the pump impeller starts to break up - so does still pump, just not always enough, depending on the engine load etc.
The fault code that is often associated with this is P2290 - though getting that code doesn't always mean the HP pump has gone - could be filter, Low Pressure pump (In the fuel tank) or several sensors. Mark.

Low pressure fuel pump wont cause the poor running, this is only needed for starting, once running the high pressure pump does the job.....if you take a look at fuel readings when running you will see a negative reading
