Not heard of this on a D3. Was it a sudden event or has it been getting difficult over a period of time?

selective responce
Had this on another vehicle.
If your clutch does not fully disingage and drags, you will not be able to get reverse.
You can roll the car backwards down a steepish hill engine at tickover and if it will select reverse then its your clutch, if not then gearbox.
Check clutch It is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.

Not good news I am afraid, mine had this problem fixed at the garage I regularly use by previous owner, it was found that the gear shift interlock mechanism was broken.
The bill I have was for £1892.25. However the clutch and flywheel was also changed. Trying to work out through the bill what the actual cost of the gear shift fault was listed as £375 for gearbox repair but I am not sure how much of the total labour was for this. When I spoke to the garage the clutch was done as it was a sensible time to do it.
The car had done 69699 miles and was 4 years old at the time. If you want any more information from the invoice let me know.D3 2.7 TDV6 Man HSE

thanks for your replies - my excellent local indy garage eventually got to a point where the gear box had to come out and discovered it was a 30p circlip which had broken! I'm not kidding. Labour was slightly more!
Landrover do not stock the circlip! but one was found - car now has reverse - not the cheapest of jobs but better than a new gearbox.
In case anyone else comes across this post in the future - the symptoms were - we lost reverse then got it back for about 10 miles then it went totally - we could not engage reverse - all other gears worked fine and car was drivable.
