Parking Break and Gearbox Fault

My manual 56 Plate Dicso has started displaying Gearbox Fault and an "E" where the current gear should be, along with parking break fault.

My gut fell is this could be the clutch on the way out, the pedal is rather high, the vehicle has done 65k mostly wither intown or towing a 3 ton trailer.

Does this sound right?

Anybody any idea of the cost of a new clutch on one of these beasts these days?

Hi my D3 has just started doing the same an E comes up same place but disappears and all gears show as they should. I did not have this when I bought the car and has only happened since the rear air con pipe was fixed and re gassed, a new brake bulb was put in and investigation into alarm fault so as it's gear related I can only assume this is a coincidence?

Car has had new clutch etc last year at approx 70,000 miles now has down 81,000 so i hope it is not clutch related because it should last longer....!!!??? Cost was more less the same as other post.

The garage can't find any fault or problem apart from that dash indication, any ideas?

e

i am no expert on this but have owned a d3 for 6 years and i had an e display a few years ago - i think the actual fix is to be found on the web - the one that sorted my problem was very very bizzare but worked - it involved driving in reverse at reasonable speed then coming to a halt and running throught the box forward gears without stopping so u need a decent straight.

I found one on LanyZone basically :-

Put the vehicle in low range, turn engine off, then put ign on but don't start engine.

The completely dipress clutch and select 1st gear, and remove foot from clutch completely. Do this for each gear in order, finishing with reverse.

Turn ign off and remove key.

When you next start the disco the fault has gone. How long the fault remains cleared, time will tell, and obviously it doesn't fix the underling fault if the clutch is on the way out.

Try the link above if the clutch slips for any reason the switch needs recalibrating

Tried doing as above but the E is still there, I have not lost the gear indication and have always had the correct gear number showing and comes up instantly as you change gear.

The E just comes on before you start the engine with all the other dash lights, the E shows briefly goes out and does not show again. No other faults showing so I guess this is a different fault? Guess as all works I should stop worrying?
