I would check for air leaks in the pipes first, If air is getting in where it should not then at low speed engines often suffer from "hunting"(revs going up and down by themselves).
An old trick to find airleaks in pipes is to hold the revs at around 1000 then squirt WD40 on the pipes, If the engine noise changes then you have found your leak.
hope this helps, maybe other member have had similar issues. It is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.

same problem here for ato gearbox, is your an auto?
http://forum.landrovernet.com/showthread.php/199037-Hunting-Why
here's the detail
Default Re: Hunting - Why?
Having been through all this recently, I can confirm that it does cure the problem!
For the record my D3 is a 2005 Auto and has done 136,000 miles! Land Rover state this a sealed for life auto box but recommend that the oil is changed after 10 years which equates to 130,000 miles in any language.
I spoke to a very helpful trouble shooter at ZF and he confirms that checking of the oil for colour and moisture content is a good idea and probably after 120,000 miles it isn't a bad idea to change the oil. Double flush is the 'easy' way or if you have a 'Mega' flush option near you go down that route. 4Tech are very helpful but as I'm in Cardiff and a little far from Cambridge I could not go to them, shame. I found that Gloucester Road Gearboxes in Bristol offer Megaflush at a similar price. As you are near Derby I'm sure there is someone who specialises in auto boxes and might offer Megaflush. The bonus of Megaflush is that you change ALL, well 99% of the oil, where a double flush does 75% at best. As the old comes out new goes in, no mixing of old and new. By the way the same ZF box is used by Jaguar, Audi, BMW and Mercedes as well as LR! It's a good solid box with very few problems, which is nice to know.
After doing all this I still had a very slight, and I mean very slight, fluctuation of revs which concerned me as I thought it could be the torque converter. My LR dealer did a IDS on the car and told me that one of my EGR valves is sticky! So problem solved. It is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.
