V8 oil in air inlet manifold. Only done 20k km
Just had the inlet manifold removed to find to my horror about 100-150ml of engine oil laying in the grooves.
It's engine oil for sure
Car is all but brand new and doesnt use oil.
I have been told to check the breather hose to make sure it's not restricted as this is the only way oil can get there
Anyone out there seen or heard of this and cause?

First question has to why did you have the manifold removed in the first place?

Maybe it was overfilled with oil? Was it running ok before you took the manifold off?

that was my thought - as it doesnt use oil, doesnt smoke and runs as sweet as a new 20k v8 should.
the oil change was done less than 2k ago - and i did get the garage to add some molyslip engine protector - i am wondering if this is the cause
I am dreading seeing it running tomorrow - fingers and legs crossed it will be fine. garage had it running today after cleaning it out and putting it back together again

Personally, I would not worry about it, it is probably normal. You have not said what caused you to remove the manifold, but if it was excess crankcase pressure that is causing excess oil in the breather system, I would expect it to be running rough or smoking.
There must be an oil/flame trap in the breather system somewhere, maybe worth checking it out?

I will check the breather pipe from the rocker box cover - for obstructions and the flame trap so check all is ok.
There was no mechanical issues or reason to take the head off - its was being checked out for an LPG conversion I am planning.
Thanks for your thoughts - will let you know what its like tomorrow

I know this is ancient stuff , but after all , take out the electronics and cleaner technology of modern engines , and engines are still engines .
Back in the early 70's when I was a young lad I bought a 2nd hand MGB . A couple of weeks after I bought it , it started blowing oil out of the SU carbies . After having a heart attack , and thinking major engine rebuild , I found it was caused by a clogged PCV valve .
Cleaned out the PCV valve and end of problem!
Now I know that having a clogged PCV can pressurise the system . But how the oil could could go upstream against the air flow and out the carbies has me beat , but it did .
So maybe you should go back to basics and check all the mechanicals .
Cheers John
