Towbar wiring

With zero knowledge of electrics I managed to install wiring for 7 pin single socket towbar electrics of 54 plate D3, no complications from parking sensors - took me ages and not the neatest job ever, but it works. Would I be unwise to attempt same thing with D4?. or should I order with tow bar installation - £500 but should get £150 plus for existing towbar to offset.

The installation of the LR wiring kit is easy enough, just plug it in but you need to get it activated so the vehicle knows when you have a trailer connected otherwise, amongst the things I can think off:
1. the rear PDC will still activate with a trailer on
2. The gear box will not lock into command shift gear downhill like it's supposed to....

Just to name but a few
LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

If you are buying from new, why not just ask the dealer to activate the towing electrics as part of the deal (after you have agreed the price!) and before you take delivery, then buy the socket and wiring kit for around £80 and fit it yourself.

Wiring needs to be connected before activation.

I fitted the tow hitch and electrics myself and saved quite a few quid. You will then need the computer programmed to tell the car it's fitted. Otherwise reverse lights will not work and reversing buzzer will drive you mad! as I had purchased the car 2 weeks earlier they charged me £40! About 1/2 price Bow down

Top job though

Is it same kit as D3?- contemplating removing existing loom from my D3 and swapping over to my D4 when it eventually arrives. Just wondered in view of LED lights on back.

The D3 and D4 towing electrics are very different. When I bought my D3 they fitted a D4 set-up and nothing worked. The stealer sorted it out fit fitting the correct kit as advised by members on this forum.
