Vibrating at speed
Hi all, I seem to be getting a vibration at 80mph plus, the whole car vibrates, not massively but enough. Any idea why this could be? Thanks

had a similar experience a while back. Exluding the obvious (wheel balancing) you may need new discs...Duncan

Yes get the back one's done as well, no point having half your wheels balanced on this type of vehicle. If you have a full size spare get that done too.

Hi BarleyBaron : did this start suddenly, or did it become worse gradually? Sudden = lost balancing weight. Gradually : either brakediscs or balljoints...
If you're on a very smooth surface, [like brandnew tarmac without tracks formed by trucks], and you slightly steer out of 'straight' ; does it briefly go away, or doe it become dramaticly worse? If it goes away briefly : unbalance. Dramaticly worse : lower balljoints. Also at braking ;[ slightly braking going straight] ; no vibration? Then the vibes are wheel-unbalance. Slightly braking with small steering input : fierce resonance ? Thats the balljoints. Could be enhanced by worn bushes of the 'hinge' of the lower a-frame. A-frame and balljoint better replaced as whole unit. If it is just wheel unbalence your steeringwheel should judder left/right/left slightly at cruising. Then : if the discs are bend, you should have a judder getting fiercer at slightly nipping the brakes going straight-on...

After vibration check the wheel temp carefully, obviously pulling over first!! If one wheel is appreciably hotter then it could well be a binding brake caliper or, if rear, binding EPB.
