There is still only one Atera dealer and it is still around the same price - http://www.roofbox.co.uk/scripts/rbvehsel4...RYoJEYzTmI

I agree it is a great piece of kit. It folds easily and I store it on the wall in my garage on a U bracket/

Atera strada DL3 bike rack

Hello there,

Just to clarify from those that have used one- does the lower section of the boot fold flat down with the atera bike rack in place on the tow ball as we want to travel with dogs and bikes and need to be able to get the dogs out!!. Also do you need the height adjustable tow ball or is the detachable towball ok for using with the atera bike rack.

Thanks, Graeme. Thumbs Up [/b]

Who's this then? A different dealer or the same one with a different website?

http://www.chwhite.btinternet.co.uk/html/atera_strada_2.html

£280 for the two-bike.

yes, both parts of the boot open fully with the fully loaded rack is "slid away".

You can also open just the top part of the boot with the rack in full upright position (without bikes on).

Are there enough of us thinking about buying these to make it worth trying to get a better price?

I definitely need a 2 bike. And I need it fairly immediately. I think others are talking about 4 bike. If a quick group buy is possible I'm up for that.

Slides far enough out to allow bottom tailgate to fold flat. I use mine with the detachable towbar.

Altera Strada also. We use ours with 4 bikes. First time loading takes a bit of sussing but once you work out the best way of loading it is easy.

Slides away from the boot with bikes loaded no problem, to allow us to put the dog in. Yes the bottom part will fold down fine.

The photos below show the clearance you get with the Altera Strada slid out. Apologies for the poor quality but I'll blame Apple. Great phone. Crap camera.

It is worth pointing out that the Altera come with 13 pin electrics but roofbox.co.uk supply a 13 to single 7 pin adapter. The only issue with this that the the reverse lights don't work but legally this is not an issue as the regs don't require them. However, I bought a 13 pin to dual 7N/7S from these people:-

I then used plastic cable ties to secure it to the rack.

Just bought the Atera Strada 3 from roofbox - fantastic piece of kit. No more tightening straps. Simple 20sec job to attach (but RTFM first, especially to unattach)). For us D3 owners, this is the one to buy as we have the split tailgate. The SPORT rack only tilts, not slide out & tilt.

Word of warning - if buying from roofbox, unless you have someone in the house all the time, to pay for the timed delivery. I choose the cheaper option (NightFreight), specified to leave it at neighbours if out, and came back to find it hidden behind the D3 - suppose that one advantage of having a large car Smile . Lucky also that the box was wrapped in plastic as it was raining.

We bought one too and used it for a week in Northumberland in June. Cracking bit of kit.

I did have a problem and if this happens to anyone else don't panic! Just ring roofbox and they'll sort you out:

The clamp onto the tow ball should be REALLY tight. If you can push the rack from side to side at all then it's no good. Some tow balls/racks need a shim clipped into the holes in the clamp so they grip the ball a bit tighter. It's not included with the rack, but roofbox have them and were got it delivered to me next morning at no charge - top service!

I did find biking at Kielder was a lot more hard work than driving it though Embarassed
