Absolutely Si, but it happens to the best of us. More importantly is the getting unstuck, it's shocking how some people do it risking injury to themselves and others not to mention damage to the vehicle for the sake of a 'quick recovery' Rolling Eyes

Yes - big snatches can be nasty Wink but it is a quick and effective and used all the time here in Aust.

I've had a lok at the rear recovery point - it's very serious! So happy with that one! Just concerned about the front one.

And yes - maybe, with my new toy, once I get the STTs fitted, I just wont' get stuck...

Hey - does anyone know if TJM bougfht out a bullbar?

Simon,

The recovery points are very strong. Strong enough hang a D3 from it and then another off the rear recovery point... quoted in Autocar bay a LR chap.

I'm in Melbourne also and asked the same questions when I got the vehicle - which I have had stuck - less than 80 KM from Melbourne in Wombat Forest and the only way it was going was down the hill.

As an engineer, haveing read the manual and looked at the front point I wouldnt do it. A winch pull sure but you are snatching 2.7 Tonnes of car off a point that is not designed for it. Sure I am conservative but haveing snatched a bull dozer once with a fully loaded 4WD Fertiliser Spreader - and 20 Tonnes of Spreader going in one direction while the snatch got thinner ..... and thinnner ..... and thinner really makes you think about what you are doing.

That front point relies totally on a U Bolt in Tension. Do you know the specs of the U Bolt ? because I dont and I wouldnt risk it.

I believe the best technique for snatching is to load the snatch strap up with enough tension from the pulling vehicle while the bogged vehicle stands on their brakes and then releases the brakes. If the bogged vehicle is pulled forward by the snatch strap tension then do it again until clear. If no progress is made then dig more around the wheels/chassis/diffs etc... to clear the obstuction and try again.

I understand this technique prevents the huge shock loads on recovery points, shackles and snatch straps.

That's a new one on me - but it makes some sense, esp for non-hard core off-roading, and it would certainly reduce the stresses. But not a snatching method that is taught by the 4wd off-road training schools...

cheers
