Drop plate vs Detachable towbars

On my D3 I had a drop plate towbar, it did the job good when towing however o had to be very wary when coming off steep inclines when doing the odd spot of offroading, that I didn't rip it off or it to act as a land anchor to a 2.7 ton beast, it did catch a few times, but never fully dug in! Thud

So after a year of absence, after picking up my D4 I decided to get a detachable one this time, I dont tow insane just a medium size trailer now and again, and I thought it would be worthwhile as I could take the towbar off to prevent corrosion and also have it off for a better departure angle when I finally produce the courage to take my shiny beast offroad a bit more often!

Thoughts on which is the best option?

A drop plate gives you a choice of heights and for serious hard towing work would be my choice however it does restrict off road ability. Big Cry The detachable will give you the flexibilty to tow and go off road. Mr. Green
I have the detachable fitted to mine so I have the best of both worlds.

For the 10 minutes on your back it takes to remove the fixed one, I'd either leave it on if you tow more than you off road, or take it off if you off road more than you tow.

Thumbs Up
