Help - 12v Supply

Hi....
My car is in bits!!!...I have got hold of the supply to the 12v output and want to splice into it for my satnav...not being mechanically or electrically minded in the slightest....which is the pos and which is neg? Got 2 wires, one black the other purple and green???

Help please.....

Using a simple test lamp or DVM if you have one, connect one end to an earth point (-ve) on your body and the other end to each wire in turn. If it lights or indicates 12V then that is the live or +ve. The other wire should remain at 0V or off.

Be aware that some supplies are only live when switched by the ignition key.

PS if using a dvm select dc volts!

Where is this supply normally connected to? *normally* black is -ve...

I have taken the supply from the 12v supply to the left of the ashtray...

Black is -ve, Purple/green is switched +ve at position 1, fuse is 34 in the CJB
