Hello & a few questions!
Hello all,
New to this forum but not to Landys!
Firstly i would just like to ask for a little feedback on what happened to me recently.
I have a disco 3 TDV6 2005.
I travelled 350 with a caravan on tow, once stopped & unhitched, moved forward 20 yards, and my N/S/f wheel fell off!
3 sheared studs. Replaced the hub at the camp site and all was well - interestingly i got better MPG on the return trip than i did on the way - maybe the new bearing helped.
I didnt notice any vibration or anything sinister & guess the manovering of the caravan finished it off.
BUT..... when i spoke to the guy at LR (who was really really helpful) he said i was lucky as the part had been on back order and had just come in - i asked if this was common and he suggested that "ahem, we have seen it before", so anyone else had this?
Next - my Indicator clicking noise has packed up, any ideas? the dash light works, but no noise.
I also have a shudder when accelerating, feels like it may be fuel starvation or even gearbox, not from stationary but at maybe 30mph, it feels like the reverse of brake judder? Any ideas? I have flushed & changed the oil, fuel filter etc but it still does it.
Finally i have some bubbling showing on the side window scrappers (black plastic finishers at the door/window meet) any suggestions on where i can get some?
Sorry for all the questions!
I hit this forum, as the campsite we stayed on also had someone else staying there with a monster Disco 3 with every extra fitted - snorkel, winch etc, it looked the dogs & had a number plate ____MUD! He had a Disco3.co.uk sticker on it!

Hello and welcome, I had to replace a N/S front wheel bearing recently, seems not an uncommon failure, quite a few reported on here, not heard of the wheel dropping off though.
Shudder while accelerating is another common enough fault, again I've had the same but a "Mega-Flush" sorted that out.
The window trim bubbling is just the springy bit moulded into the rubber going rusty, a very common fault on older Disco 1's and 2's and now it seems starting to appear on the 3's.Clive

Thanks Clive.
What does a Mega Flush involve, as i recall the gearbox oil on these from LR is Brewsters££££! Are there any alternative oils availiable, and can i do it myself?
Yes i have 2 Disco 1's (and a defender!) that both have the trim bubbles, but want to keep my 3 looking good.

bearing etc etc
hi cliffbase
mine had it n/s/f bearing replaced at around the 30k mark, ref the shudder,as crwoody suggests could need the mega flush,a lot of the guys on site have had it done with generally good results.
cheers

Megaflush involves connecting a device to the auto box oil cooler feed and return pipes and pumping new oil through the system with the engine running, it is claimed to replace up to 97% of the oil this way compared to a "double flush" which just means draining and refilling twice, the problem here is that when it's drained, a lot of the tranny fluid is retained within the box and torque converter so you only get to replace about half the fluid.Clive

Re the gearbox, try entering "+megaflush" (without the quotes) in the search box, there's quite a bit of info on here and a local specialist may not always be the answer, worth a try anyway.
Re the silent indicator, there's a small piezoelectric sounder on the back of the instrument cluster, I believe the "tick-tick" sound comes from there electronically rather than a mechanical relay noise, (I stand to be corrected here!) Do you get any other beeps and bongs? - key in with door open etc.?
Could be a question for Wiggs Clive
