Disco 4 keeps losing iPhone Bluetooth Connection |
|
Has anybody else had problems since taking the latest iPhone 3GS upgrade to 4.1 (8B117). My Bluteooth connection keeps dropping out and losing calls or showing "phone not connected".

Since posting this problem I have had the software re-installed by Landrover for the phone and audio, which did not fix it. I have also backed-up the phone and then carried out a clean reinstall of the iPhone, from a new iPhone profile. Seems to have fixed the problem, apart from one or two occasions. Suspect the problem is the iPhone.

FWIW, the latest firmware (4.2) for the iPhone is due out shortly, possibly this week. Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana

LTB00325 covers this for new phone module software for the below faults.
Improved Bluetooth pairing when handset is initially paired to vehicle.
Improved Bluetooth auto-connection when ignition is switched on.
Maintaining Bluetooth connection between handset and vehicle i.e. Reduced likelihood of Bluetooth connection being lost during journey.
Improve iPhone compatibility. Better audio handling when transferring phone audio between handset and vehicle. i.e. when an incoming call is answered, the call would sometimes be transferred to the handset and the user would be unaware. This appears the call is dropped.
Cause: Software within the telephone module. Suggested Customer Concern Code - A86.
Action: Should a customer express concern, follow the Service Instruction outlined below. Recommendations to
The Customer, see Service Information outlined below.

I've just got a new iPhone 4 which works perfectly. It replaces a Blackberry which also worked fine.
I have had the software upgrade on the D4 earlier this year. Paul

Hmmm, this is pretty poor from LandRover - in fact it's shocking.
Like many, I've had problems with various phones connecting and working as advertised. I've sat in my Discovery 4 attempting to persuade my phone to connect to the £40k+ luxury car I'm sitting in to no avail, whilst freely and easily being able to view connections to other devices in other cars next to me when sat in traffic or parked up.
If I raise the issue with the dealer they just repeat the LandRover position - "It's your phone sir, are you using a compatible handset with the correct firmware" - to which the answer is yes, I am.
I get lectured on protocols - I know what a protocol is as I spend all day using them and programming them.
The Bluetooth specification is widely available and has been programmed successfully and used by many other companies without the issues that LandRover subject us to. They hide behind corporate procedures and policies, bluffing and bullying their customers with b*llsh*t when it's really their problem to fix. I wonder how many people changed or purchased new phones so they could use the hands free they paid for just because LandRover purchased a poor quality Bluetooth chipset.
The fact that LandRover has released a software update fixing the problems I've been complaining about shows that it was their problem all along. They ought to be ashamed of themselves.
I'm getting this fix applied to my car tomorrow - if it works I'll be on the phone to them asking for compensation. If you're in the same position may I suggest you do the same.
The number you'll need is 01926 691850 (LandRover customer services). Happy Land Rovers

Following on from my rant above ......
The update mentioned above has made a huge difference to stability when using bluetooth in the car, both when initiating connections and retaining them.
Shame Land Rover didn't program it properly in the first place.
If you are having problems with bluetooth, based on my experience, I would ask your dealer to apply this update to your vehicle.

With the multiplicity of mobile telephones, firmwares and BlueTooth specifications, add in the switch in BT module supplier, and it's a wonder any 'phones work correctly, which is probably why the list of "approved devices" was so short.
Good to know that you're now happy. Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana

It has nothing to do with the number of devices available, nor their variety, it's down to the programming, defined standards and how those standards are interpreted and implemented.
The LandRover implementation was either poorly programmed, the standards not understood properly, or implemented in too strict a fashion that left little room for any deviation (I strongly suspect the last option).
Regardless of what the cause was, the fact that LandRover consistently blamed everyone else (ie, the phone isn't compatible), even when the phone was on the approved list, with correct firmware, shows scant regard for their customers and the money they have paid for an extra that doesn't work as advertised.
I still stand by my original comment, this is shocking behaviour from a manufacturer, the person(s) responsible for the implementation of bluetooth should be looking for another job .... one they can do properly as opposed to pushing poor products out at an inflated price and then blaming others for their lack of skill and knowledge.
