I feel a return to the 'club' coming!
Well I just can't stand it anymore and I'm off to my dealer tomorrow to order a new D3 I really like my D2 for off-road use but on road it is starting to really bug me, it is slow and noisy and I'm only getting 20.5 mpg plus the a/c has packed in for the second time in 4 months, the ABS and TC has failed and it needs a big service.
I really don't know what to go for though, last time I had a Bonatti Grey Base-7 manual and added 19" alloys, privacy glass and Xenons 8) and I'm tempted to do the same again (auto this time) but wondered if I should....
a. Stick to the Base Car and add toys
b. Go for the 'S' and order leather (if it is possible?)
c. Look for a used 'SE' with a few miles on the clock
What do you reckon folks and what sort of delivery times are being offered at the moment????2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

I'd be tempted to look for a low mileage SE.
Although say this I started doing this and then ended up buying a new SE.
BTW if you get an early 2006 model you still get the xenons but you also get the fridge and FPC.

I went for a new "S" with leather option, and added the xenons later (cheaper).
I didn't need leccy seats, and prefer aftermarket sat nav.
Best compromise all round I feel.

I'd like to know more about adding the xenons. it's legal here in the USA, but I have no clue what all is involved.

To add Xenons to a coil sprung D3/LR3 would be illegal in the UK, not sure about US, but would expect the same. On the air sprung cars, the headlamp levelling is done by the attitude of the vehicle - automatic with air springs. All I needed to do was add the correct Xenon headlamps to the car as a a straight swap. With coils, there is no means of auto levelling the car and therefore the lamps, so I expect it's a no go.

The only stipulation in the UK is that if you have HID or Xenon light fitted you must have a headlamp cleaning system i.e. spray fitted also.

Si.
Was the leather a factory option or did the dealer retro-fit for you? Also would you mind me asking what sort of deal you got as the dealer I have just been to see was taking the p*ss with the figures quoted.2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

Having recently driven a manual D3 over 250 miles (mixed roads & mild off-road) I'd say get an auto. Couldn't believe how much nicer the auto. box was in comparison, IMO of course.
Helps with re-sale as well (so I'm told).

Factory option. I ordered through motorlogix.co.uk, supplied by LR dealer.
I forget exactly what I paid (S is not available new now anyway for direct comparison), but none of the LR dealers I spoke to directly could get anywhere near the deal.

You could say that, I really regretted selling my other D3 and it was just a matter of time before finances allowed me to replace it with a new one.2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto
