Day Running Lights (DRL's) |
|
So, the law changed this month. From Feb 2011 all new cars now have to have day running lights by law. I wondered how this was being acomplished on the current discos and which lights will be on all the time. Will it be the curvy row of LED's maybe?
Has this already been addressed with the D4, or is it something LR will program on new discos delivered as from this month?
Next question: I know DRL's have been mandatory in some counries for many years, so has this feature been available on older discos like my D3 for example, and maybe it's just disabled in the UK market, and just a case of enabling DRL's on the computer? Presumably if so, it would be the sidelights. D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)

I'm sure this was covered the other day in a post, one of the forum members got Wiggs to enable his DRL's, think it was the side lights!

Wiggs,
Hope your well mate.
Is there a list anywhere of possible things to enable, if so where can I find it.
Also, are you in Scotland soon, I'm looking at getting Xenons and would need them enabled to stop flickering and possibly interested in another few bits?
Cheers

I have these enabled .... Canadian light setting. Headlights & sidelights on when EPB released, overridden at night by headlight switch on the dash so you do not plunge into darkness when stopped at night

No. They are not bright enough. With D4s, DRL enabled option turns the headlights on all the time.

Thats a shame. I don't like to see the headlights on all day. In the old days with the age old DRL's on Volvo's and Saabs, they just had some 21w sidelights that ran all day. I wonder how much having the headlights on all day will reduce the life of the bi xenon bulbs which are a little more expensive than changing an H4 bulb!
I realise I don't have to do it, but all new ones do from this month. They must have known this was coming before they developed the D4, so why didn't they add some DRL's purposefully to comply with the law, but not have headlights on all day D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)

I am over in the Czech Republic at the moment and DRL's have been law here for years. In my previous D3's I had the Scandinavian settings activated, but in the D4 I forgot before we came over, the LED's have sufficed, been stopped twice this week for the standard spot check, licence, insurance, and motorway windscreen sticker (although I honestly think I could give them a copy of the Daily Sport with my reg no on the top and they'd accept that as ownership!), and both times the LED's have been on, and as I have been fine free I can therefore assume they are acceptable!
Would like them activated as the DRL's as they are bright enough and should last a good amount of time.

I saw a brand new Audi today, and the wavy line of LED's around the lights were being used as DRLs. So why's that not good enough on Discovery? D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)

Audi LEDs are much brighter and meet the requirements. I had an audi S5 before the D4 and you could actually use the LEDs on the S5 to give you some road vision. The D4 LEDs are pathetic in comparison.
