Inadvertant exhaust modifications |
|
During a trip through the Flinders Ranges a few weeks ago, the left front wheel tipped a rock on edge. The rock retaliated by attacking the left side exhaust pipe, inflicting some good dents and slightly relocating the pipe, so as to leave the outlet just touching the cast iron counterweight which LR has provided in the interests of increasing the tare weight of the vehicle.
This has added a pleasant 'ting' to the plethera of 'bongs' which accompany a journey in The World's Most Capable Off-Road Lounge Chair - this I can live with, but I have just noticed that the exhaust gas from that pipe now hits the plastic bumper and is melting it!
Is this because (a) the exhaust gas is VERY hot? or (b) the plastic has a VERY low melting point? or (c) all of the above? A visit to the muffler bloke is planned as I cannot lever the pipe back into place, and a set of Pedders taller coils is not too far into the future. Ex Defender 110 200Tdi owner.
