D3/4 No Drill Laptop Mount

Finally got around to sorting out a decent, removable laptop mount.

All you need is one of Uncle Ray's (RLD) balls Shocked and some RAM Mount components (Part-numbers at end of this post):

Fix RLD Ball, like so:

Attach Long RAM arm thus:

Attach other RAM components like this:

Hey presto:

Order RAM components from http://www.ram-mount.co.uk. You'll need at least:

1 x Tough Tray Universal Laptop Holder c/w Angled Clamps (RAM-234-3)
1 x Round Base with 1.5" Ball (RAM-202A) - bolts onto underside of tray
1 x Double 1.5" Ball Long Socket Arm (RAM-201-D) - clamps onto Round Base Ball

But for extra height, and to allow a passenger to use the front left seat, you also want:
1 x Double 1.5" Ball Standard Socket Arm (RAM-201)
1 x Double 1.5" Ball Adapter (RAM-230)
LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

I ended up chopping Ray's Ball Off the seat mount, drilling a hole and fitting one of these http://www.ram-mount-uk.com/ram-207.htm as the metal ball was not getting enough grip for my taste! But has to get a pipe thread nut of a good size and drill through the nut and ball joint thread then insert a self tapping screw once nice and tight no problemo! Thumbs Up

Ray did that bring a tear to your eye, bet you never felt a thing! Whistle

All you had to do was add a bit of .75mm or 1mm rubber sheet to uncle Rays balls and it would have provided the extra thickness to grip. Thumbs Up
In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Not cheap, all in all around £200 - RAM do have an option for tablet style systems as well as powered docking stations, but I didn't look into these - the tray I went for means I can adjust it to suit different systems.

True and no doubt would have done the job just as well, but the extra girth of the pipe thread made a difference to the 'flexing' of the mount. Plus I didn't think Ray was into PVC at the time. Thumbs Up Bow down Thumbs Up Bow down
