Hi
Just wondered how many is actually using our wonderful electronic parking brake. I only use it once or twice a month starting off on an incline. Else i just leave it in P when i leave the car.

It sounds to me as if you are one of those people who sit at traffic lights for ages with your foot on the brake dazzling the poor sod behind you with your brake lights. Especially annoying on a wet night!
It makes my blood boil!
Not really having a rant, I just wish people wouldn't do it. Back in the game!

It's a lot of strain on the 'Park' pin if you do not use the handbrake.
The LR instructors at the LR Experience even taught us to apply the handbrake and allow the car to 'settle' on the brake (in neutral) before putting the gearbox in 'park', when parking on any sort of incline.
The park pin is tiny little thing - so be nice to it.

This is good advice.
Also, does the parking brake on the D3 operate on the wheels or the transmission as it did on my RR classic? This is why you were advised to let the car settle before putting the autobox in park as the slack was taken up in the drive-train. If you didn't do this you would have to pull quite hard to take it out of park and it would do so with quite a loud Klunk. Back in the game!

I wish I could use it! Unfortunately, it is the one thing that has never worked reliably since I got the car.
Application on anything other than level ground, making sure that the park brake will not have any strain put on it, usually results in an ear splitting screeching noise followed by an error that requires a restart.
So I tend to avoid using it, and when I do, I make sure the Park pawl has got the car in check.
My car has had the overlay and everything else associated done to the PB, but problem persists.
60k service next week, so they can have another go.

In my auto, I only use the electric brake if I'm parked somewhere. If the car is at home on my drive, I never use it and just relay on the park position. In my mind, I was saving the electric brake as I've heard so many D3s with broken mechanisms. Matt

Always use it, flat or inclines, never a problem .
However, I am also interested to know if it operates on the drive shaft? and what are the consequences of putting it on at speed??? Presumably emergency stop initiated? I am somewhat nbervous to try that? Don't put it off, go for it!

I thought that it applies itself automatically after a while without you having to touch the button, or is that just on the RRS? And engaging it at speed IS great fun and instead of waiting for a Corsa to sit on your tail try it with a BMW (any model)............................. they absoultely sh*t themselves because there is no way they can stop as quickly as an D3/RRS or 07 FFRR can! They might have the Ultimate Driving Machine but it isn't the Ultimate Stopping Machine!
Another bit of fun is to tap the cruise control off then re-engage it at speed..................... that flashes the brake lights! Now a disillusioned new Land Rover buyer and have jumped ship to something less expensive and more reliable that hugs trees.... now driving a Mini Countryman PHEV as well as my trusty and brilliant 1996 Epsom Green Defender90 Tdi300

Always use it when car is parked.
The Landrover Experience instructor told me to use it if ever I needed to do an emergency stop. Hasn't happened yet.

Might be wrong, but i understand the handbrake is on the transmission, look underneath on the drive shaft i believe its the "round" bit mid vehicle... i'm sure somebody will put me right if i'm wrong!
