Buying a D3 HSE
Hi folks, first post here so go easy!
I've tracked down myself an 06 (56) D3 HSE with the bits I'm looking for in terms of a car at a mileage (45k) and price I'm happy with. The car is coming from a franchise dealer as an approved used car which gives me some comfort.
However, now I'm looking to progress, what are the main faults and issues, which may or may not be obvious, that I should be looking for when poking around it? Looking for a nugget of the experience that seems to exist around these parts.
All help greatly appreciated and I promise to post photos if it all goes to plan!

Hmmm - apart from checking for a service history (LR would be good) the body work gives little to worry about on a D3 (they are built like a tank)
Without stating the obvious - make sure you drive it, and check everything works, inc suspension raise/lower and hi/lo gear ranges, if it's an auto then try out command shift etc, seats, radio, bluetooth, heated seats, air con (some have rear a/c as well) sat nav etc.
If it is a LR dealer (or reputable other dealer) insist on a warranty, most will give 12 months for that age of vehicle
Despite all of these, it is still a FANTASTIC vehicle, the engines are easily good for 400k+ when properly maintained, it will go just about anywhere you dare to take it, is superb at towing, a fantastic M way cruiser, and a all round very versatile vehicle - and you will suffer from perma grin for many years to come Never get mad - get even !!
06 D3 now gone to family member and still going strong at 265k

Make sure you get a GOOD warranty!! Whilst you may get a good un that hasn't needed much, you may end up doing the bits that routinely fail mid life (turbo, bushes, compressor, diffs, etc)!! Whist some (well one) has got to 400k on an engine I know 2 peeps that have had new engines (and they are meticulous re maintenance) and good few more blown engine stories on here due to knackered camshafts. Hope for the best, but insure for LR's legendary reliability!

not as bad as all that DSL.....
you need to drive yours a bit more enthusiastically so the spiders dont get chance to block things up with their cobwebs
mines done 130K now and only had "normal" wear and tear things replaced.Duncan

My folks have a 4 year old D3, soooooooper low mileage and driven like pensioners, not a single issue!!

They bought it from new but on my "why don't you try a Disco" suggestion!! I don't tell them re common problems as they think D3s are bullet proof! But I make sure they get a decent warranty.
And they don't do forums!

Don't let our (well my) rantings put u off, these are great cars but it can be a love/hate relationship. Once you start getting the mods in you start to bond with her.

Couldn't agree more - it's a Landrover thing
My D2 clocked 190k from new, and I have since clocked almost 75k in my D3, and that's in the last 7 years
And even with all the good and 'not so good' points, I still wouldn't give another car a second look unless it was wearing a little green oval badge) 8)Never get mad - get even !!

Hi there, my 08 HSE has been almost faultless, apart from a battery failure and a ride height sensor.In nearly 50 years, it is the best vehicle that I have ever owned, which includes (new) Shoguns, Izusus,Ford Explorer (ARRRRG!!) etc.
however I would hate to run a D3 without a warranty, as a serious failure could seriously damage your wealth.

Got my 2nd MOT due in late April, the last one took 2 weeks and cost £1500(ish)!! Thankfully Tesco paid for most of it.
