This might be a silly question but how did you know they needed replacing ? I have a small annoying knock that i can now hear as the other noises have gone due to replacing the lower front arms and track rod end. Would this be my culprit ? Thanks

Without the forum I wouldn't be attempting any of this!!!!!!
It's worth mentioning that the BIG RED ARROW in DM's photo points to the 4 inch bolt holding the front end of the (UK) nearside cross-member. It took me 2 hours to get this out, using GT85, a blow torch and a 2 foot breaker bar. I hadn't realised it was so long, so I wasn't always aiming the GT85 towards the threads, merely the shank. By the time I'd finished the head was rounded off and I was using the wonderful Irwin sockets to save the day, again.
While the cross member is off, I'm going to drill out the belly-pan bolt snapped by the dealers sometime in the last 5 years! That's after I've changed the ARBBs, of course. Then I am definitely applying copper grease before putting the new hardware in How come all my hardware is so badly seized
As I've posted elsewhere, the front ARB clamps torque to 115 NM, but the smaller bolts on the rear ARB clamps to only 62 NM (if you can get a torque wrench in position at all). These are definitely NOT threads you want to strip! The cross member bolts also torque to 115 NM, but the under-shield (belly-pan) bolts to only 62 NM, according to the Haynes manual.
I changed my rear ARBBs last weekend but it had no effect on the low-speed knocking noise on bumpy roads. I'm hoping for better from the fronts!
Thanks to R_M, D_M, Bodsy, et al. Without the forum I wouldn't be attempting any of this!!!!!! Went for a job as a human cannonball. Not the right calibre.

Done mine tonight there, managed to get the bolt for the cooler ok, the drivers side had a bolt in the top of the bracket, it came not too bad, next time I will be using a set of ramps or something similar, I wasn't really prepared in that respect, just done with the off road height selected.
The guide above helped a lot, I did go for the beer before tackling the passenger side, I didn't take the diff bracket off, I managed with a 3/8" drive socket with extensions with the flexible knuckle joints.
Next job is replace the rusty sump...
Cheers

Well, changing the front ARB bushes didn't fix the rattle either. I used a Dremel to grind a bit off the diff bracket to aid access to the n/s top nut. My MY09 D3 also had a bolt rather than a stud/nut for the o/s top. According to Steve at AF, this is standard on D4s, but must have been phased in on late-D3s. Going to change the drop links next. I'm not hopeful, but I'd rather try the cheaper, easier fixes first.
Drilled out the M10 bolt the dealers snapped off in the undershield/crossmember. Chased the remaining threads out with an M10 x 1.5mm tap. Seems good as new and torqued up fine. 8) Not surprised these bolts seize up: they stick upwards into an insert that cups salty water all winter. A recipe for rust. Went for a job as a human cannonball. Not the right calibre.

I recommend replacing the nuts and bolts as you replace the bushes!
Front was ok. The bolts on the rear of mine were corroded. Did the near side ok. Offside started to round off. Got the last bolt half way out then couldn't get the socket or ring spanner to grip anymore!
Wish I'd put new nuts and bolts on last time I did them!

Going to try and finally do mine this weekend - been out to spray a little penetrating oil before I start, but looking at them they look shot.

Looks like you've got 3 nuts and 1 bolt (upper on driver's side) holding the FARBB clamps, like on the D4. Odd for 2007 vehicle? Make sure you buy matching replacement hardware. Went for a job as a human cannonball. Not the right calibre.

Think that's just the way the photo has come out. Sure it was just two bolts each.
Now you've got me thinking so I will take a proper look before I start.
I'm going to start tomorrow night (if I have everything) as it's going to keep me out of the pub - hopefully I can get it done before dark..

That reminded me to go and spray my nuts as the old girl's bushes need sorting too.==================================

Guys,
Have you tried Polybushes replacement instead of standard LR015339 and LR015336?
I found them on flea bay for £57 for 4 of them 2xf&2xr. Is it worth going poly or not.
I have my ones worn out so I will be changing soon.
