Interior lights.

Please can someone tell me how to switch off the interior lights so that they will not come back on when a door is opened.
A typical scenario is that most weekends I drive the D3 with 4 or 5 passengers & 2 dogs into the depths of the countryside. The D3 is then used as a base for changing clothes, boots etc. a food & drink station and a kennel. Plus invariably it gets scrutinised by owners of older L/R's & other 4X4's.
I can switch the interior lights off by pushing the centre button in the line of 3 buttons on the overhead roof console. No problem, but every time someone opens a door the interior lights come back on again Mad
How can I switch off the interior lights so that they will remain switched off until I reactivate them?
The handbook just goes on about them switching off automatically after a preset time. Of course this is useless to me as the doors are being opened & closed frequently, so the lights remain on all the timeunless I keep prodding the switch.

Press and hold the centre light button until it flashes at you... I think this then disables the on via door open. But you can still manually turn them on and off.

repeat to reset back to normal operation.

errrr.... not sure. Might be. Just seem to remember it from somewhere for some reason. Also my loan D3 the other day had a broken right handle light button. Tired this trick to turn the continuously lit bulb out. It did.

hope it helps and it is right, let us know.

It works Very Happy Very many thanks.
Surely it must be in the handbook, I couldn't find it when I looked the other day, but the index doesn't always seem to point you in the right direction!

yeh, found at last ...

at least two, thanks Simon. I'd been looking for this but must have overlooked it in the handbook. Works well on my MY05.
Why have I never felt this way about a 4WD before?

Make that three! That will end a major gripe I have, as I frequently get in and out of my truck at night on camping excursions. Now all I need is a seperate switch for the rear cargo area, and I will be a happier man!

Shucks guys... Embarassed

Glad to be of assistance and makes a change from my regular posting style...

And to add to my tip here is the section in the manual :

Interior Equipment.

All of these lamps are switched on by pressing
the switch adjacent to the lamp required.

It is possible to de-activate the courtesy lamps
automatic mode by pressing the centre switch.
The message ’INTERIOR LIGHTS OFF’ will flash
in the Message Centre*.

To switch the lamps off without disabling
automatic mode briefly press the centre switch.

To enable automatic mode press the front
centre switch for more than three seconds. The
message ’INTERIOR LIGHTS AUTOMATIC ’ will
flash in the Message Centre*.
