EGR Blanking kit (bell auto's)
Just fitted blanking kit, done it in one hour with fantastic insructions from bell auto's, car seems a lot crisper/smoooother now to see what the mpg does.

Did mine a month or so back with the BAS kit, as you say, it's a doddle of a job and the big bonus is it's now a far better drive and more responsive too
TBH I can't say there's any noticeable change in the MPG, but the improved drive means I really don't care Clive

Just a quick question - If people are unanimously agreed that blanking the ERGs off is a good thing and it seems from the forum they are, then why did the manufactures put them on in the first place? Is there some hidden benefit in relation to emissions or some other misc benefit?

To the best of my understanding, the EGR system as fitted to modern cars, is to reduce the NOx emissions by reducing the combustion temperature, thus enabling them to conform to European emissions regulations.
The problem appears to be that some emissions control measures are a compromise with some negative side effects, not least of which, in the case of EGR, is the loss of performance and the general un-reliability of the system.
Since a diesel engine emissions check (for MOT) is confined to "smoke", there is no downside in this respect and there is a definite improvement in performance, since this also overcomes the reliability issues too, there's no reason not to.Clive

Yes it's easy enough with fairly basic hand tools, a 1/4" or 3/8" drive socket set with a couple of extensions and a Torx bit set are required and it helps if you don't have hands like sides of beef
The only thing to beware of, if your car is a 2007 or later, there are apparently issues around the engine management detecting that the EGR is not working and causing running problems.Clive
