Discovery 3 won't track up

I've got all new control arms on my discovery 3, took it to be aligned on a hunter 2 system but they can't get the camber to pull in enough so it's stuck with way to much negative camber on all 4 wheels. Apart from the control arms being out of spec from the factory is there anything else that could cause this? I have checked the hight calibration of the suspension and that all seems fine as well.

A picture of it might help. Are you sure they had the equipment set up and used correctly?

If the eccentric bolt at his maximum offset is unable to correct the camber the alignment shop need to loose it and lift the car from the crossmember than tighten the bolt (hardly) and lower the front end and read the camber value, generally in 2 or 3 attempt they are able to match the correct camber Idea

I asked at local independent a few years ago about what brand of suspension arm to fit. LR all the way as the feedback as on some cars aftermarket arms can’t be aligned as they are not made to the correct tolerances.
Only repeating what I was told, not direct experience, but if you have aftermarket arms I’d be considering it as a potential cause.

Did you not mark the position of the original bolts with a witness mark before removal?? Then transfer the marks to the new bolts if using new or aligned the old ?

There are two factors driving the need for an alignment:

1/. Arm fabrication accuracy. I have been told that non OEM arms are not made accurately enough to ensure that 100% of vehicles can be aligned to the correct tolerance. Not expereicned it my self, so make your own judgement.
2/. Chassis fabrication accuracy.

If you took off the old arms, but re used them, then marking the bolts will get you relatively close.

However the OP changed the arms, so no amount of marking the bolts would work as the new arms will have a different dimensional accuracy between bushes and the ball joint at the wheel.

Did he use genuine alignment bolts?
I have also seen it where the alignment washers have been sitting on top of the pressing they are supposed to push against.

Has the height of the arm been set before tightening the bolts and are the pips still in place that the bolts rotate on.

My suspicion would be they dont know how to use the equipment or how to adjust the geometry of the car.

Flack Thumbs Up

I had to re-use the old bolts as the new ones were poor quality and the lump on the washers too soft to cause the bolt to move , if that makes sense.

I had the same problem with the cheap bolts in the end I bought genuine nuts and bolts and reused the washers
