Think my egr's might be going |
|
Just pulled out from home and FA power and puff of smoke ! Does this sound like egr's ? After 5 miles or so seems intermitant ? Sometimes when I floor it it picks up - other times it's flat and takes longer than normal to pick up ? What do you think. Only had car 10 months and bought from a LR dealer - will it be covered under their 12 month warranty or will I get the fair wear and tear argument ?

Sounds like a split in your intercooler hose rather than EGR's
For MY07 onwards, if your EGR's were failing so much to cause that, you would get an EML on the dash display. Bodsys Brake Bible

Rob I doubt it's a split hose as you would have no power and boost escaping from
The hose which you would hear all the time. Holes in hose don't temporarily fix themselves. Could be variable vane fault with turbo? Could be an egr sticking open and and losing boost. These faults don't necessarily put eml on neither as an Ecu has to go through certain drive criteria before it finally puts eml on. There are drive cycles and various self tests that the engine management performs first. You may have pending codes in Ecu memory. I think egr problems are po404? Don't quote me on that as I work all day with this stuff
Check Ecuemory and take it from there.
Good luck Live everyday as though it were your last!

If it's the EGRs then you should get an engine warning light on the dash - the amber one that looks like a helicopter. Well, sort of, if you squint a bit.
I had that light coming on intermittently recently and the the dealer replaced my EGRs under warranty. 2015 Discovery 4 HSE Corris with Blackpack

The dealers usually run a mile when the words vvt, egr and disco 3 are mentioned in the same sentence. I confused as to which light looks like a helicopter? Do u mean eml? I got my fuel tank replaced as well after a bit of mouse action on the breather pipe.
As for the warning light - maybe you need to squint a bit more to see the helicopter similarity. 2015 Discovery 4 HSE Corris with Blackpack

I have had both EGR valves (and turbo, and suspension compressor, and clutch, and............) on my 2005 D3 all done under warranty, without quibble. I got no warning lights illuminated for either EGR, just the flat as a f**t power and some smoke. Whatever it is, it should be covered (depending upon the age and mileage of the vehicle).

Dealers down this way are a little bit more stingy i think. They really dont want to do much at all to vehicles once they have sold them. I
It just goes to show that not every fault will flag and eml light though as the system is a strange beasty and has to meet so many data points and a certain criteria before it flags a problem. So as i said before get it code read and see if there are any codes in waiting. Live everyday as though it were your last!

I got no warning symbol and no replacement under my RAC warranty, however they did mend my horn . EGR failures are always more apparent during cold weather as are batteries on their way out like mine!
