No Wiggs, it isn't.......
I had a lot off starting issues the last few weeks.....and now in snow-time things got worse....and having no spare time to go back and forth to de dealer I just was fed up with it and went for a Batt from a local shop.

I would imagine your new battery has small removable caps ( proberly 6 ) if thats the case , then you dont need the tube .
Its advisable to remove the caps when charging with a battery charger ...to stop the build up of gases .
The LR one is sealed ..thats why they have the tube ( or it may not be ..cant remember ) G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

My original battery (2007) has the breather tube and the removable cell tops.
Normally the pipe takes the fumes away from the battery as they are corrosive. Sealed batterys do not normally have the pipe.

most batterys have a breather on the side so the battery can "breath" if not "more common in summer" when you dont need the battery the alternator keeps charging so when the battery is fully charged it starts to boil and the gases escape down the tube away from the battery most common sign is acid build up on the battery posts if so swill off with warm water and spray white grease onto battery posts if there is access to the battery cells check the acid level over the lead plates inside the battery if they get to low the battery will let you down in winter when its most needed just top up with distiled water to just above the lead plates always up to somert usualy no good acording to swmbo

The new battery that I got from L/R a couple of weeks ago hasn't got anywhere to connect the breather tube too either. There seems to be a white small blanking plate on the side, but no elbow to connect the tube to. Is this right?

all the batteries we supply where i work are unipart and all of them have a tube to fit in the side . the white bung ? see if it comes out if so if you have your old battery fit the tube off that in to it or have a word with the dealer you got it from see if they can help . ask if it is "a sealed for life battery" or one you can inspect and top up always up to somert usualy no good acording to swmbo
