Odd Drive/Engine/Park Brake fault in the Snow this morning.

Had an odd fault this morning.
We had about 8” of snow here overnight which didn’t worry me for getting to work today, as although we live on a steep hill the D3 has almost new General AT’s and a new battery so should cope.

I dug the car out having pointed it up hill last night, got it warmed up nicely, put it in snow mode and released the park brake, which came off OK.
No issues at all and I had a huge grin on my face until I got half way up the steepest part of the hill and suddenly I had the dreaded ‘beep’ a message came up saying
‘Engine system fault’
another that said ‘Special programs fault’
And the Orange park brake light came on.
I lost all drive and stopped, however the engine carried on running normally.

I took the car out of Drive, into Park, put it back into Drive and carried on to the top of the hill with the orange light on and the ‘Special programs fault’ showing.

At the top I stopped, turned everything off and restarted it.
Still had the orange Park Brake light on, and the ‘Special programs fault’ showing.

I drove another 100 yards and parked off the road out of the way and tried the restart again.

After that it was fine all the way to work , let me select special programs, the Park brake went on and off OK and I had no lights or messages.

Any Clues?

Nasher.

Maybe just a build up of snow/slush/ice in the wrong places affecting the wiring...?

I've had a very similar experience over the past few days.

I get a very brief 'Engine system fault' and a beep, and a very temporary loss in power... but immediately clears and power is returned. It's happened 3 times in 4 days and always in GGS going through the snow/slush/ice.

I'm considering getting it in the garage to check, but seems very intermittent.

Darren.

I also get strange bongs and the fuel gauge goes to empty but after a little time goes back to normal. So as Bodsy says possibly a build up of snow.

Thanks guys.

It's a bit worrying when It's a fault you can't explain, and loosing all drive in the current weather could be bad.

Once (and so far, onlt the once) I had something similar to this last winter. I was out in some forested areas with my parents looking around some WW1 places of interest. Snow was on the ground and then we ended up in a very heavy snow storm. We were driving around the forest area, sometime going through snow drifts.

At one spot we had stopped for a look around. I had left the D3 in GGS setting. When I restarted, the engine fired up but I got a bong, error messages etc (as described by the OP). Switched off, restarted and no problems from there (it was a replacement D3 so no idea if it ever did return on that vehicle - but I still had it for a couple of weeks afterwards with no issues).

So it could be some quirk / glitch with a combination of snow/slush/cold...?
The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

Club "yes, I too have had the EGR's replaced..."
Club "yes, I too have had the compressor replaced..."
Club "yes, I too once had the car at the dealer for a couple of weeks nearly 4 weeks over 4 weeks...5 weeks"
Club "yes, I too have had EPB failure..."
Club "yes, I too get mysterious bings and bongs..."
