Changing to Continental Headlights

I have the Adaptive Xenons and need to fit European headlights. The handbook tells you how to change headlights generally and i'm Very Happy with that. Just a quick couple of questions though:

1. I assume the units are a one for one swap?
2. Do i need to get LR to do anything clever with the car computer set up to make the car realise that it has European headlights?
3. Do they need adjusting for height/latitude or do the motors inside and the self-leveing mechanism take care of that when they're fitted?

All help/advice gratefully received

All you need to do is flick the lever in the back of each lamp unit, see this thread for details. Nothing else required

Slimer, thank you, that's useful reference but i actually have to fit Continental lights (at vast expense Crying or Very sad ). That leaver only flattens the beam on the left to avoid blinding on coming drivers but does not raise it on the right. Because i am exporting the car, i have to pass the European light test which requires the 'real deal'. So, any ideas anyone?

Thanks chaps. Now swapped them over had had them looked at by the stealer, they did need some fine adjustment but only for the Halogen filler light, not the Xenon Main/dipped beam which generously sorts itself out.

Now i need to know how to flatten the beam to take the car back to the UK. Slimer, i had a look at your thread but the D4 Adaptive Xenons are different to the D3's. There is no lever to flip as shown in that thread. There is the collar which holds the bulb in; this as a lever sticking out either side of the bulb which twists through 90 degrees to release it. However, off to one side is a another lever mounted forward in the light sticking backwards which flips up and down. The one one on the passenger side can be easily reached with the lights in the car. Does this alter the beam pattern?

Anyone know, i'm sure one of you guys with adaptive Xenons took your new D4 to the continent in the last year?

Thanks

I did the lever flick to convert my lights to flatten the beam. On my UK spec D4 with adaptives there is definitely a lever which is quite obvious once you get the light unit out. It is impossible to find/flick the first time with the light assemblies in the car, and very difficult even when you know exactly where it is with them still in place.

Is it possible that they don't provide for flattening the beam on LHD vehicles.

When I had a D4 off-road @ Dunkeld, the instructor showed me that to adjust the headlights on the D4 HSE for continental driving was done via the dash board. Can't remember now how he did it but it should be in the hand book.

It is easy to see one he lights are removed and this is a very quick task to perform. I did mine whilst waiting for the shuttle at Euro Tunnel in Folkestone. It probably could be done with lights in situ but I think it is quicker with them out and less cuts to back of hands.

ukdave:

If an instructor told you that you can change beam pattern from inside the car he is completely wrong.

There is a menu item for changing from driving on the left or right, but this changes the sensitivity of the detection camera for the automatic main beam system.
