Might buy a Discovery 3 4.4 HSE LR3's are for overseas markets, whats the price of petrol got to do with it?

Sorry mate, can't help - my head (with a little input from SWMBO ) won on this occasion. For what it's worth I have no regrets (but there are days I would love that V8 responsiveness under my right foot).

If it helps, I had one, but I sold it a few weeks ago. This had nothing to do with the type of vehicle it was but the overall unreliability . When the V8 was on song, it was a dream.
You will also pick a '54 or '05 plate up for £23-25k from a dealer - the inital depreciation is nasty, but that will tail off as they go into second and third year of ownership.
My advice - if you can afford it, go for it, there is nothing like a V8 rumble for making you smile, even the diehard smogmasters on here will agree with that Ex Java Black, Aplaca D3 V8SE 54 plate with front lamps, roof rails and rubber interior.

When I got my TDV6 I really fancied a used V8 as they are good value. The mpg didn't bother me but the fact that I would only go 250 miles between fill ups did.
I must say a V8 with an LPG conversion is a very interesting proposition.

I guess a 3 year old (out of warranty) v8 will be pretty cheap and ripe for conversion to LPG.
If you don't do many miles then that would be pretty luxurious. Perhaps as a second car? Hmm. Another 14 months now and the launch models will be appearing as 3 yr old examples. I wonder what price they'll be. Any guesses?Discovery 3 tdv6 7 seat Buckingham Blue

4.4 L petrol
I have an '05 LR3 HSE 4.4 and I love it! Great performance off and on road. Fully loaded (HD package, winch, towing etc.) it weighs in at a hefty 2700 Kg and averages 9.5 MPG (combined city, highway and trails). In Canada gas is a little cheaper (around $1.15 Can/litre) but I wouldn't give it up for anything.[img][/img]

Any D3 will cost a lot to run compared to say a Ford Mondeo, V8 D3 just a bit more. How much more will depend on how you drive it.
My D3 V8 4.4 HSE has about 8000 miles on the clock. Total fuel from new ids accounted for on a spread sheet and actually averages 17.9 mpg. This is a mix of short (4 mile) trips and longer trips. I dont have a lot of town driving though which may help.
Very interesting is that since a software upgrade 6 weeks ago fuel consumption is much better Now averaging 18.5 overall. Just had a week to northern Spain involving 350 miles to port (and same back) along mainly motorway. Rest of the 1650 miles was in northern Spain. Had seven of us in vehicle and a very large top bx and average for whole trip ( according to dash computer) was 20.7 mpg.
Trip to Edinburgh (211 miles each way A1 and a roads) returned 21.4 mpg
I was as concerned as anyone about the MPG on a petrol but its better than I expected. A lot depends on how you drive though. Certainly could drop 7 or 8 MPG by fast and assertive conduct. Incidentally petrol type seems to make no difference. Bog std UL95 from tesco does just as well as branded 'super fuels'. This was a big surprise.
Any D3 is an amazing vehicle. Petrol V8 has, in my opinion, fantastic performance, even better than figures suggest. Biggest niggle is always having to bear in mind where next fuel station is on long journeys.
Would I swap? Maybe if the big V8 diesel becomes available next year in a d3 but then if I could get a supercharged V8 petrol D3.... Now there's a thought!
