Just like postman Pat's cat I suspect! Wink

Would have got both my D3s remapped but could only get one company to quote on insurance. That was over double the premium (£212 up to £450) and trebled the excess. My main worry was that at the end of the policy year I would have nowhere to go except that one company.

Another result....

I just called my insurance company to ask / tell them about the remap. No problem, and no extra charge. Thumbs Up

Which one? - for the benefit of others considering a remap...

I assume you carefully worded your request and avoided the word 'performance' ? Wink

When trying to get quotes, described it as "remapping engine software", the first question then was always "Does this increase performance or accelaration?". Then heard sucking air through teeth job as they thought "boy racer, here we go again!". The insurance company that did quote as above was Privilege, would be interested in who insures U Simkna.

I have the JE re-map and my best mpg was 32.8mpg on A roads at around 50-60 mph.

Towing a 1600kg caravan I averaged 22.3mpg, mostly motorway.

My current day-to-day average is 25.4mpg, but that's mostly normal roads with very little motorway or dual carriageway and moderate traffic.

It's a special "everyday car" policy that used to be linked to my MX-5 "modified classic" policy through AON brokers. I figured they would be OK, as my MX-5 was producing more than double factory bhp, and although it cost me, pretty much anything went in terms of mods.

I did say it was mainly for towing and that it would result in a bhp increase, but was probably only in the region of 10%. As long as the remap is added to my policy file, it's not like they are ever going to be able to tell what the actual difference is.

Mine's been TC'd and it seems to have improved the fuel consumption by about 4mpg so far. I'm off to France in 11 days time towing our 1900Kg caravan so will have a much better idea of its towing consumption by the beginning of September. I'll monitor it over the time we're away and post some figures up when we get back.

ITMT, even my partner has been unable to reduce consumption below 23mpg and she treats the throttle as an on/off switch Sad ! Prior to TC, she could easily reduce the reading to between 19 and 20 Big Cry .
Now an ex-D3 owner after 7 happy years. Miss the car but not the big bills Smile
